Race178 Mobile App for 2015 Instructions Tracking your team position in the 2015 Reno Tahoe Odyssey, 2015 Capital Odyssey, or the 2015 Comstock Odyssey is simple. 1. Download and open the Race178 app (which is available in the Apple App store as well as in Google Play). 2. Click on “Events” at the bottom right corner of the screen. 3. Choose the event for which you are participating. 4. Press the “Update Position” button. 5. On the next screen you will have to enter your team’s bib number along with your team specific pin# provided at the end of this document. Please be aware that your pin# should be 4 digits. 6. Now the fun stuff: a. At every exchange point and the finish line (but not the starting line), a team member should be ready with a phone that is logged in (steps 1‐5 above) b. As the exchange is made, the team member with the phone will press the “Update Team Position” button. c. Please make sure your team start time is correct in the app. FAQ’s What if we don’t hit the update position button at one of the exchange points? The app won’t be able to record an accurate split time for that leg or the next leg. However, if you want add or edit a split time simply go to the "update" feature and once your logged in you will see an edit button which will allow you to adjust those times. This will also adjust your pin on the map. (Please give this time to update as it can take several minutes).If you’re not concerned about adding that split time you missed, just try to remember to update position at the next exchange point so that your friends, family, and the other van will have more accurate information on where your team currently is. What if my phone has no service when I hit the “Update Team Position” button? No problem, the app will wait until it the device is connected to the internet again and send the information to the server. After that, everyone tracking your team will get the updated information about your team’s position. You can background the app, but if you completely close it after a position update while not in service range, the app won’t be able to notify the server until the app is re‐opened. 1 What if we accidentally hit the “Update Team Position” button early too far along the course? Not to worry, as your team members hit the “Update Team Position” button at the correct positions, the problem will fix itself. For a little while, your fans will be impressed (or more likely suspicious) of your amazing burst of speed ;‐) What if we accidentally hit the “Update Team Position” button at a checkpoint we’ve already passed? First, the app will ask for confirmation that you really want to do this. The confirmation dialog will explain that you are trying to update your team position to a position on the course your team has already passed. If you hit “OK”, the time at that exchange will be over‐written. If you hit “Cancel”, the position update will be ignored. If the position is updated erroneously, the splits may be inaccurate. But the tracking will resume properly on the next correct update. Will this app use a lot of data on my data plan? The app was designed to sip the minimum amount of data possible and still give the user a great experience. That having been said, updating your position uses a VERY small amount of data. Does the app contain leg information? Yes you can simply go to the course map feature on the home page and touch the leg number you are interested in and you will be able to see the information and elevation on that particular leg.
