Sony is the future of 4K entertainment
4K is coming and it’s going to be awesome. In order to display copy-protected 4K content, all
products in the home theater set-up need to be HDMI 2.0 certified and HDCP 2.2 compliant.
Sony will help your customer get ready for the future of entertainment since many 2015
models are HDCP 2.2 compliant and support playback of copyright-protected 4K content like
blockbuster movies.
Not every manufacturer can offer this right now – when it comes to 4K Ultra HD, Sony is the industry leader. Sony has
been involved in all aspects of 4K capture, distribution and reproduction for nearly a decade. Sony products like the
HT-NT3 sound bar will ensure customers get the best possible 4K experience at home, from source to sound.
HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 – NOT THE SAME!
HDMI 2.0
HDMI 1.4 allowed data transfers of 10.2Gbps. It also
permitted 3D support and ARC.
HDMI 2.0 allows data transfers up to 18Gbps. The
increased bandwidth allows full 4K at 50 or 60 frames
per second. Other advantages of HDMI 2.0 include:
10 and 12-bit color (close to 70 billion colors), dual video
streams (great for shared screen gaming with 3D
glasses), up to 32 channels of audio and most
importantly, no new cables are required.
Please note: not all HDMI 2.0 connections support the
full HDMI 2.0 spec.
HDCP 2.2
HDCP 2.2 is the latest evolution of copy protection, it’s
designed to protect 4K content. It creates a secure
connection between a source and a display. If your
customer wants to enjoy copy-protected 4K content,
every device in the video chain must have HDCP 2.2. An
HDMI cable run through a receiver or sound bar will have
to be HDCP 2.2 compliant too.
