Summer School Staff
Student Welfare
All the Norman Court Summer School staff are dedicated individuals who
have an understanding of working with children from different countries
around the world. We have 1 member of staff for every 4 students at
Norman Court, allowing us to focus our full attention on the individual
needs of each child.
Norman Court specifically caters for young children and as such has
a primary focus on the welfare of all the children that attend the
course; whether it’s their first time away from home or they are a
summer camp returner.
All activities and day trips are supervised by our well-trained staff with
the safety of the children as our main priority.
Each summer Norman Court welcomes many children for their first
residential experience away from home. This is an exciting time for
both parents and children, although it can also be an anxious one
too. Our staff at Norman Court are specially trained to help support
all of the children through any issues of home sickness that they may
have during their first time away from home. We also keep in close
contact with the parents to update them on their child’s progress at
the school. Children grow in confidence throughout their stay with us
and will end the course with many fantastic memories and stories to
share with their friends and family when they return home.
Managers
Our Management team take responsibility for every aspect of the
Summer School and of course place the welfare of the children at the
heart of day-to-day life. We have experienced and dedicated Managers
to oversee the English teaching programme, the social activity
programme and the excursions. Together, our Managers see that all
aspects of the school run smoothly, safely and offer every child the
chance to participate fully.
House Parents
The House Parents are responsible for the welfare of the children in the
boarding houses and during break times and meals, supported by the
rest of the staff at the school. They attend to any specific welfare needs
the children may have.
Teachers
The Norman Court Summer School Teachers are professionally qualified
native speakers who have a genuine desire to work with international
children. The Teachers also help look after the children during activities,
on excursions and during the evenings.
Activity Leaders
The Activity Leaders are responsible for implementing the activity and
excursion programmes to ensure that the children are entertained, having
fun and speaking English.
For more information please call us on +44(0)1943 878518
First Summer Camp Experience
“Great experience, my daughter enjoyed every day
with her new friends. The best attention from all the
staff. She'll be back again next summer, sure!”
Elvira, Parent - Spain
Support at the School
The children are supervised throughout the day, from wake-up
through to lights-out and there are always staff available to help.
Through the night there are dedicated staff on duty should the
children need them.
Some children adapt very quickly to summer school life, whereas
others take a little longer or require a bit more support. Either way,
the Norman Court Summer School staff are able to offer a friendly
face and positive encouragement to ensure that each child has the
best possible experience.

The Programme
Morning Lessons
Morning Lessons
English Lessons
Five mornings each week are spent focusing on classroom
based English learning. The lessons at Norman Court Summer
School are designed especially for international young learners.
The English lessons take place on 5 mornings each week,
giving the children 15 hours of dedicated language tuition
per week. The lessons are interactive, fun and perfect for
children aged 7 to 11. The morning after the arrival day, the
children are tested to gauge their English level and placed
in classes on the basis of ability, age and nationality. The
lessons are delivered by professionally qualified Teachers
with class sizes limited to a maximum of 15, giving every
child the chance to receive lots of individual attention.
Afternoon Activities
On four afternoons per week the children take part in the
Multi-Activity programme. There will be a variety of activities for the
children to choose from each afternoon. On one afternoon each
week all the children take part in a fun whole school activity such
as our traditional English Fete.
Evening Activities
Evening activities give the whole school the opportunity to get to
know one another in a relaxed, multinational environment, whilst
taking part in varied and exciting activities.
Day Trips
All the children enjoy two day trips every week, visiting cultural sites
as well as more light-hearted attractions. All of the trips last a full
day, so there’s plenty of time to experience everything.
English Plus+
On two afternoons per week, in place of the Multi-Activity programme,
children can choose to do an English Plus+ option. The English Plus+
courses are optional and are not included in the standard course
price. All the courses are led by qualified professionals.
The choices are Horse Riding, Adventure Sports and our
performance course, Showtime.
To make a booking please visit www.normancourtsummerschool.co.uk
Project Work & Day Trip Preparation
When learning a language, it’s important that it is put into
a real context to enable the children to express their
interests and experiences. Each week the children work
on a group project, such as a play for the Talent Show, to
put their English into practice. They will also have
a lesson to prepare them for their day trips.
Reports & Certificates
Each child’s progress is monitored closely during their stay
with us and on departure all children receive a Norman
Court Summer School Certificate, plus a progress report.
The Syllabus
The Norman Court Summer School syllabus focuses on
communication and fluency. Lessons have been designed
specifically for young learners - they are fun, interactive
and bring the English language to life. We use modern
language teaching techniques, encouraging students to
develop their English by providing them with information
that is relevant and useful.

English Plus+ activities. The English Plus+ activities are specialist
courses run by professional instructors. The English Plus+ activities
are an optional extra and can be selected at the time of booking. If an
English Plus+ course is selected, this will replace the Multi-Activity
programme on 2 afternoons per week. It is only possible to select one
option each week.
The choices are as follows:
English Plus+ Horse Riding
The children learn how to ride and look after horses with qualified
instructors in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. English Plus+ Horse
Riding is suitable for both beginners, who may never have ridden
before, or those children with more experience who ride regularly.
English Plus+ Adventure Sports
This course is for our more adventurous children and includes varied
and exciting activities such as kayaking, laser quest, climbing and
woodland survival skills. The Adventure Sports course is led by
qualified professionals, accompanied by our own staff.
English Plus+ Showtime
This fun and creative performance course combines dance, drama
and singing. Led by our very own performing arts staff, our children
will create performance pieces for the Norman Court Summer School
Show. As the English Plus+ Showtime course works towards an
end-of-course performance, it can only be selected for 2 or 4 weeks.
