Richard Franklin [email protected] | 520-248-8760 Deerpath Golf Course Junior Academy Director & Lead Coach Richard Franklin is in his 5th year as Deerpath Golf Course's Director of Instruction and junior golf specialist. After a 5 year stint as a full time playing professional Richard drew his attention toward helping the next generation of golfers reach their full potential. Through his countless experience and research in the fields of both biomechanically based golf instruction and Olympic- style holistic coaching, Richard has created a junior golf program that represents a fundamental shift in how golf is being taught. "I have always had an immense passion for the game. Golf has given me so much and I wake up everyday trying to give my students the same gift", says Richard. "It is my sole objective to create an environment at Deerpath Golf Course that fosters personal growth through fun and exploration of this great game. We are amongst other things "gamifying" the 10,000 hour rule. (10,000 hours of deliberate practice is seen as a universally accepted prerequisite for genius level attainment of a given skill set) We utilize science supported research to scale every environment and growth benchmark to the biological age of each of our players. We have a long term development model in place that will spark an intrinsic motivation to accept golfs myriad challenges and rewards. I am ecstatic about what is on the horizon for the many juniors involved in our program. Private Lessons can be an essential piece of a juniors development. The golf swing is a very complex motor pattern and private lessons are able to give the coach 1 on 1 time to reinforce what is learned in class or to cover a new area. The coaches can then provide additional feedback during the weekly classes and supervised practice as well that supplement the private lessons. Private lessons are essential for players serious about getting better, but group training is incredibly important for the juniors to learn and compete with other junior golfers. The group environment is where the junior can test his skills, make new friends and really develop a love for the game! This is an organized time where juniors can take what they have learned in the weekly classes and develop the skills under the watchful eye of a junior coach. It is during this time that the coaches will train juniors "how" to practice properly using the "Blocked, Random, Performance Framework". By learning how to properly practice we can accelerate your juniors skill development and help make them independent golfers. There are some changes to the program this year.. The main change for the 2015 schedule is that there will be 2 "tracks" for junior golfers (8 and older) to take. All golfers in the 5-7 year old age range will enroll in our Spark Golf Program. The two tracks are the Academy Track and the G.F.L "Golf For Life Track. The academy track differs from the G.F.L. track in that it geared toward golfers whos ultimate objective is to shoot 36 or better for 9 holes. In accordance with that end goal, the academy program will feature benchmark skill and playing tests and use a 12 skill badge curriculum over the course of 6 levels ( see PAGES 12-14 for more detail) . Academy students will also comprise our travelling golf team in 6 events per season (6 Fall, 6 Spring) and will have mandatory Saturday supervised practice and a minimum amount of individual practice hours per week. The G.F.L track will b very similar to the 2014 junior program. It will feature the same progressive, age appropriate lesson structure, as well as bimonthly inter program tournaments. During this time frame it extremely important that children get exposed to environments that foster self exploration and ultimately growth. The G.F.L program sets out to balance the inexact science of "play" with a mindful focus on the progression towards specific golf goals. The alchemy behind golf aptitude is (amongst other things) a complex mixture of connection and engagement to the sport, deliberate practice, non - deliberate play, self efficacy, and consequently the calcification of skill. This track is designed to set the all- important foundation that must be present for later skill development. The G.F.L. After School Golf Program consists of 2(2) hour group sessions per week for the 6 week Spring and Fall Semesters COACHING Operation 36 Golf Matches (Ages 7-18) 2015 SCHEDULE Experiencing the game through friendly competition For your junior to become a great golfer and develop a passion for the game they need to play regularly!
