PRESENTS: DALLAS/DENTON-TEXAS APRIL 2015 The Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), is proud to partner with Outback Steakhouse, to present Ride Ataxia Dallas. University of North Texas Apogee Stadium, Denton, Texas - Sunday April 12, 2015 The Fourth annual ride will offer fully supported 6, 25, and 50 mile route options on scenic country roads, an amazing view of Ray Roberts Lake, and delicious post-ride food prepared by Outback Steakhouse. Ride Ataxia is a fundraising program of the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) with ride locations throughout the year, in Dallas, Northern California, Chicago, the Pacific Northwest, Philadelphia, and Orlando. FA is a debilitating multi-system disease and the most common cause of inherited ataxia, 1 in 100 people are carriers of the FA Gene. What begins as difficulty with balance and coordination, progresses over a short period of time to a life altering loss of mobility, energy, speech and hearing, robbing children and young adults of the ability to live active lives. FA also presents serious risk of diabetes and life shortening cardiac disease. As of today, there is no treatment or cure. Initiated by Kyle Bryant in 2007, Ride Ataxia has raised invaluable awareness for FA and over $ 3 million in support of FA research grants in just 8 short years. Bryant’s inspiration spurs from his diagnosis at age 17 and the discovery that he could travel long distances under his own power on a recumbent tricycle. Fueled by the passion to do more for himself and the FA community, Bryant and his family completed a #CureFA | rideAtaxia.org | cureFA.org PR ESENTS: DALLAS/DENTON-TEXAS APRIL 2015 2,500 mile bike ride from San Diego to Memphis to raise awareness and funds for FA research. That was just the beginning of Ride Ataxia. Now functioning as a program of the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), Ride Ataxia offers challenging and family fun bike rides at locations all across the USA. Ride Ataxia started as a crazy idea that is now empowering thousands and changing the outlook on research for a rare, life-shortening disease. In 2014, Ride Ataxia welcomed over 2,400 participants, and raised over $ 700,000 for FA research. FARA is focused on advancing research leading to treatments and a cure for FA. Founded in 1998 by FA parents, patients and scientists, FARA is a nonprofit 501c3, whose mission is directing and funding research through a remarkable level of collaboration among the patient, medical and scientific communities. In its decade and a half of existence FARA’s efforts have led to major breakthroughs in the fight against FA, bringing hope and confidence to people who just 15 years ago had none. Supporting FARA not only benefits those suffering from FA, FARA’s work may also provide insights for a host of other conditions, both rare and common including Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, Alzheimer’s, ALS, diabetes and stroke. “Our stated and deeply felt goal is to work ourselves out of business. We are funding the world’s best science that will treat and cure FA as soon as possible so we can close FARA’s doors in an FA-free world. We refuse to build a bureaucracy. Rather, with a rock-solid, lean staff and an army of volunteers, we are building a world-wide research alliance that will treat and cure FA and eliminate the disease in subsequent generations.” - Ron Bartek, FARA President #CureFA | rideAtaxia.org | cureFA.org PRESENTS: DALLAS/DENTON-TEXAS APRIL 2015 For over 24 years, Outback Steakhouse has strived to be a part of the community and to support charitable events and organizations whenever possible.
