Living History
The events in a history textbook are more than
just dry facts and dates, a lesson students in
Caitlin Musso and Amanda Roche’s US History
II classes learned when, on March 25, they met
Harriet, a Ridgewood resident who was present
for the attack on Pearl Harbor which started
America’s involvement in World War II.

Harriet talked to the students about her experiences that day and on the home-front during
the war. Students were given a rare opportunity to ask questions of someone who had lived
the history they could only read about.
The visit was coordinated by Emma BuchkoWright who knew Harriet from church.

Ridgewood students Emma Buchko-Wright and Lydia Pierce pose with Harriet, local resident who witnessed the events of Pearl Harbor.
Day of Silence
Every year, Ridgewood High School participates
in the Day of Silence on the Friday during the
Days of Remembrance week. Participating students take a vow of silence, pledging to not
speak in memory of those victims who lost
their lives to hatred and racism during the
Holocaust.
The Ridgewood High School band performs at the
West Side Presbyterian Church on April 10. The RHS
Choir and Orchestra performed at the church on
April 15, an annual tradition for the RHS music programs’ spring concert series.
FAST FACTS...
According to US News, RHS is ranked 188 in the nation in public school education, and ranked at number 11 in the State of New Jersey.
Upcoming
Many teachers also become Vocal Allies who
pledge their support to the cause of honoring
the lost and supporting equality, but must still
speak due to the necessity of their positions as
educators.
The Day of Silence draws attention to the tragedies of the past as well as promoting an opposition to racism, prejudice, and hate crimes,
both in history and during modern times.

Days of Remembrance
From April 12 to April 19
Ridgewood High School is
participating in the annual
Days of Remembrance.
During World War II, Norwegians wore paper clips
on the collars of their
shirts to demonstrate their
opposition to Nazism and
anti-Semitism. Thousands
of people around the
world now wear paper
clips during this week in
April in support of equality
and justice for all.

A Window Into Ridgewood High School
Focusing on RHS Freshmen
Freshmen FOCUS is a year-long program for Ridgewood High
School ninth graders that helps RHS’ newest students adjust to
life on the high school level. On April 16, that program culminated in a two period assembly run entirely by RHS peer counselors.
Sgt. Chuck and Chief Ward from Ridgewood Police
talk with Dr. Walters’ forensic class about DUI and
alcohol and drug influence testing.
The assembly was broken down into two parts. A game showlike atmosphere was created in the campus center where freshmen were split into three separate teams and competed in
different events. A talent show took place in the Little Theater,
with upper class peer counselors performing skits for the enjoyment of their assembled freshmen audience.
The Freshmen FOCUS class is a great way to help the youngest
members of the school feel as if they are part of the high school
community.
The Ridgewood High School Choir practices at West
Side Presbyterian Church before their Spring
Concert on Wednesday.
Ridgewood High School seniors perform a song for Les Miserables during the talent show held for the Freshmen. The show was just one of
multiple functions that the RHS Peer Counselors coordinated to help
celebrate the end of the Freshmen FOCUS class.
QUOTE TO REMEMBER...
“Don't think about your errors or failures; otherwise, you'll never
do a thing.” -Bill Murray
Students enjoy the warm April weather by having
lunch in the courtyard.
