Name our baby dolphin - Rockingham Wild Encounters

MEDIA RELEASE
17 March 2015
Name our new wild baby dolphin
We are proud to announce the arrival of a new baby dolphin for one of our favourite local
dolphins Ulcer. We were lucky enough to swim with mother and baby over the weekend and
they are both doing very well and are happy to interact and say hello to us.
Now we just need help naming our newest member to Rockingham Wild Encounters. Head
over to our Facebook page and tell us your suggestions and we’ll announce the name in the
first week of April. Keep it gender neutral as we’re not sure of the sex of the baby as yet but
we’ll keep an eye out and post updates as soon as we know more.
Bottlenose dolphins breed year round and pregnancy will last for 12 months. The calf is born
tail first to avoid drowning and will then swim to the surface to take its first breaths of air.
Calves will stay with their mother for anywhere from 3-6 years and will nurse for 12-18
months and then learn to hunt for food.
We are always mindful of mothers and their newborns and will keep our distance until the
mother brings her calf to meet us, we have been very lucky on our recent swims to have had
these special wild encounters.
Only 45 minutes from Perth, you can experience the thrill of a lifetime getting up close to wild
dolphins in their natural environment and autumn is the perfect time of year. Fresh sea air,
clear blue water and close encounters; an unforgettable day out! Join our Wild Dolphin Swim
