HMONG CULTURAL CELEBRATION
AT ROTHSCHILD ELEMENTARY
As part of Hmong Heritage Month, Rothschild Elementary had an assembly
in celebration of the Hmong heritage, traditions, and culture that enrich our
school community. Touhoua Yang, the Hmong liaison for the D.C. Everest
School District, led our assembly, which included a reading of a Hmong
story cloth (Pandau), a presentation by Jim Harris about his travels in Laos,
a performance by Tou Lee, a Hmong reed flutist, and a display of native
Hmong clothing.

News From Mrs. Gresser’s Fifth Grade
The fifth graders in our classroom have been working hard this year from
start to finish. The end of fifth grade is very exciting as the students have
many opportunities that they don’t have in previous grades.
On May 22nd, all 5th graders across the school district come together for
the Jay Seiler Track and Field Meet. It is a fun-filled day of demonstrating
their abilities in three self-selected events, showing good sportsmanship,
and having fun. Our final field trip will be to Mount Olympus in the
Wisconsin Dells. This is our time to celebrate all the great things these
students have accomplished at Rothschild School throughout their time
here.
Remember, summer can be a time for progression, maintaining the skills
acquired throughout this year, or regression for all children. The best
predictor of progression or regression is whether or not a child reads during
the summer. No matter what grade your children are in, be sure they still
have books in their hands and make some time to keep writing as well!
As the school year comes to an end, our classroom is filled with mixed
emotions—sad ones, happy ones, and proud ones. In fifth grade, this is the
end of one big phase of a child’s life and the start of another one. I can tell
you that I am SO proud of all the students in my classroom, and I truly feel
they are ready to take this next step. They are excited and ready for the
Middle School and all of the opportunities that will be available to them.
This has been a very special year for all of us!
I hope you all enjoy what the summer season has to offer and the many
outdoor activities available to us. Cherish the time that you have to spend
with your friends and family this summer.
