RODRIGUES REGIONAL ASSEMBLY Executive Council ESSEp PR [[ MAIN DECISIONS EXECUTIVE COUNCIL DECISIONS –20 February 2015 The Executive Council met at 09.00 hours this Friday 20 February 2015 under the chairmanship of the Mrs. Rose Marie Franchette GASPARD PIERRE LOUIS, C.S.K. Acting Chief Commissioner . 1. The Executive Council has approved that the “Association des Ecoles Maternelles de Rodrigues” recruits six additional pre-primary teachers as the association is presently facing an acute shortage of teaching staff in its institutions. . 2. The Executive Council has agreed for the organization of the Second Edition of the International Judo Tournament at Malabar Gymnasium on 22 March 2015. The aim of this tournament is to foster exchange between islands of the Indian Ocean in the field of sports and the strengthen the bond of friendship that exists between countries of the region. .Athletes from Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar and Reunion will participate in the tournament. . 3. The Executive Council has agreed for the launching of the Artist Assistance Scheme for the year 2015. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to artists and cultural groups up to a maximum of Rs 30,000 to enable them to implement arts projects in the field of CD/DVD production, fine arts, theatre, publication of books and other related arts field. 4. The Executive Council has agreed that the Commission for Education collaborates with the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC) for the organization of the 8th Edition of Innovation for Education (InnovEd) 2015 in Rodrigues as from March 2015. InnovEd is a project aimed at promoting critical thinking and problem solving, creativity and innovation among students and is targeted at all secondary school students. Page 1 of 3 5. The Executive Council has taken note that a training workshop will be held for honey producers on the “Analyse Sensoriel du Miel de Rodrigues” from Monday 23 February 2015. The training workshop will be conducted by an Expert from CIRAD. The training will involve the sensory examination of the local honey through the evaluation of the attributes perceptible by the five senses organs. 6. The Executive Council has taken note that the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the “Conference des Ministres de l’Education des Etats et Gouvernement de la Francophonies (CONFEMEN)” is organizing the 10th edition of the “10 mots de la Francophonies” competition in the context of the celebration of “La journée de la Francophonie” for all Primary and Secondary Schools. The theme for the 2015 Edition is “Dis moi dix mots…Que tu accueilles: une invitation au voyage.” The ten words proposed by the Organisation International de la Francophonie are : « amalgam, bravo, cibler, grigri,inuit,kermesse,kitsch,serendipité,wiki,zénitude. » 7. The Executive Council has taken note that the Training and Career Guidance Expo 2015 will be held on 27 and 28 February 2015 at the Cultural and Leisure Centre, Mt. Plaisir. The theme for this year is “Shaping a sustainable career plan through a proper choice of your field of studies”. The objective of the Expo is to inform students, HSC School leavers, out of school youths and the general public about the different training opportunities and career prospects as well as the various schemes available in connection with financing of studies at post-secondary or tertiary levels. 8. The Executive Council has taken note that the Commission for Health is launching bids for Phase II of the extension of la Ferme Area Health Centre. 9. The Executive Council has taken note that three representative from Rodrigues will participate in the “Atelier de formation et d’échanges sur le suivi des récifs coralliens” at the Albion Fisheries Research Centre, Mauritius from 24 to 26 February 2015.The workshop is being organised by the Indian Ocean Commission and aims at providing training in data collection and analysis in the context of coral reefs monitoring. 10. The Executive Council has taken note of the outcome of the fishing expedition carried out by the five fishing vessels acquired under the MARS/Rural Diversification Programme which is under the responsibility for the Rodrigues Offshore Fishermen Cooperative Federation. The five vessels were on fishing campaign on the East Bank from 13 to 16 February 2015 and have returned with a total fish catch of nearly 3 tons. Page 2 of 3 11. The Executive Council has taken note that a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will be on mission to Rodrigues during the first week of March 2015. The objective of the mission is to see how Rodrigues can benefit from financing under GEF 5. The delegation will have consultative meetings with local stakeholders and site visits during their stay in Rodrigues. 12. The Executive Council has taken note that the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research is organizing a “Cartoon Strip Competition: in the context of the World Book and Copyright Day 2015. The competition is destined for pupils of standards V and VI of all Primary schools in Mauritius and Rodrigues. 13. The Executive Council has taken note that the Director of the National Parks and Conservation Service and an International Consultant for the National Biodiversity Strategic Plan (NBSAP) Project will be on mission to Rodrigues from 22 to 24 February 2015. The objective of the mission is to get the latest inputs from the different stakeholders from Rodrigues to complete the Fifth National Report and to organize the next step of the NBSAP updating process.
