Roskam Bakery, Co.
With an emphasis on cost optimization initiatives, Redzone
is helping Roskam Baking Co. improve profitability and drive
accountability to their shop floor teams.
Roskam Bakery Co. is a family owned and operated business, which has been
a manufacturer of bakery products since 1923. Based in Grand Rapids, MI, they produce
a variety of private label and branded snack products including chips, donuts, breads,
waffles, pancakes, popcorn, croutons, cereals and chocolate for a variety of
household names. Spanning 5 plants they have a history of continued growth
and product development.
Always striving to improve their customer’s experience and remain innovative
Roskam Bakery Co. have turned to Redzone to help improve their capacity
challenges and introduce the latest continuous improvement tools to their workforce.
Having recognized they had limited ways of measuring and managing performance
Roskam Bakery Co., through Redzone, have introduced the common metric OEE
(Overall Equipment Effectiveness), deployed iPads to their teams and instigated kaizen
events to help empower the shop floor to become self-directed and responsible for
their own line’s performance.
Redzone is a Continuous Improvement System that makes great performance stick.
Working in a social framework it is an action management and communication tool to
drive performance improvement. The system merges online Kaizen events with a cloud
based secure social technology to lift performance.
With accurate real-time intelligence and a move away from time-consuming paperwork
it is expected that every level within the organization will benefit from Redzone.
The program, which includes ‘coached in’ Kaizen events, will help Roskam Bakery Co. to
reduce minor stoppages, waste and changeovers as well as paperwork and non-value
added activities.
The project commenced within a capacity constrained area of their plant and
as the implementation is very light it is expected they will be live in a week.
This momentum will enable them to tackle their first kaizen events within
weeks of starting.
We are becoming a Visual Factory with Redzone. Having iPads deployed throughout
the shopfloor means our teams can take immediate corrective actions in real-time
without being tethered to a terminal. This will improve response time - cultivating the
sense of ownership on the floor.
