Sackville has become known for its small town charm, combined with an exciting and renowned arts scene and its many small but critically acclaimed festivals. Border Town is a three day festival that brings these elements together into a variety packed weekend. So explore Sackville, take in the live music, eat a delicious local meal, see some art and take a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk. Stevenson & co are some of Atlantic Canada’s most in-demand and original artists. The Nine Steps Band were semi-finalists in the 2015 International Blues Challenge held in Memphis. The East Coast of Canada is far colder than the sun-drenched California desert, but somehow KJ warms things up with a sound that might feel right at home in Bakersfield, CA. The legendary Singer/Songwriter from Newfoundland commonly referred to as The Man of a Thousand Songs will make his triumphant return to Sackville. His debut album, Discovery, released in 1972, was the first album composed of totally original content by a Newfoundland artist. SEAN MICHAELS SUNDAY MAY 3 7PM Thunder & Lightning Ltd. FREE ADMISSION We are pleased to welcome Giller Prize winning author Sean Michaels back to Sackville courtesy of the Frye Festival. Michaels was born in Scotland, Raised in Ottawa, and eventually settled in Montreal, where he founded Said the Gramophone, one of the earliest internet music blogs. Sean has also written for the Guardian and McSweeny’s, toured with rock bands, and received two National Magazine Awards, among other things. RESTAURANTS Throughout the weekend many local restaurants will be offering special meals designed just for this festival including: Crazy Burgers at Mel’s Tea Room, tasty Border Town specials at the Downtown Diner, Maritime love and Italian Heritage celebration at Joey’s, Border Town lattes at the Black Duck Café and the locally sourced deliciousness of the Everyday Food Truck. FARMERS MARKET No weekend in Sackville is complete without a trip to the local Farmers Market. Bridge Street is transformed into a European style street market with buskers, great food, crafts and friendly faces. A true Sackville tradition. While you are in town there is much more to take in. Walk around the Waterfowl Park and see what feathered friends are dropping in to say hello. Stop into our quaint shops and boutiques full of local crafts and art. Have a coffee or a snack at our charming cafes or stroll around the beautiful grounds of Mount Allison University. If you’re spending the day with kids they will love Sackville’s new water park and Silver Lake is always a great swimming destination.
