ABOUT THE HONOREES
We are pleased to honor three exceptional women for their remarkable accomplishments
and their continuous desire and ability to Lead with Heart. Each has made a lasting
impact on Sacred Heart Academy and continues to embrace the mission of the Sisters of
St. Joseph: Inclusive Love, Unity, Reconciliation, and Peace & Justice.
Noreen O’Keefe Costello ’70
began her leadership role at SHA as Student
Council President in 1969-70 and years later in 1997 as one of the founding members of
the SHA Alumnae Association, serving on the SHA Board for 10 years. Noreen obtained
a B.S. Foreign Service from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service where
she was awarded the W. Coleman Nevils Medal for U.S. History and Diplomacy and
was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Delta Phi History Honor Society. Following
graduation, Noreen became a member of the University’s Alumni Interview Program
where she served for 27 years becoming a Nassau County Regional Chairperson.
Noreen attended St. John’s University Law School and received her Juris Doctorate in
1978. In her parish community of St. Raymond’s in East Rockaway, Noreen has taught
6th Grade CCD Bible history for 30 years, served as President of the Parish School
Board as well as a member of the Regional School Board. Noreen is an accomplished
attorney with a professional concentration in municipal law with significant experience
in business and not for profit organizations particularly in the areas of public and
private contracts, program development and administration, mediation and managerial
supervision. Noreen has served as Deputy Corporation Counsel for the City Of Long
Beach, City Prosecutor, the City Tax Assessor as well as the City’s Affordable Housing
Coordinator, and Counsel to the Long Beach Housing Authority. Noreen is currently
in private practice and the President and Chief Fundraising Officer for the O’Keefe
Foundation, Inc. a Not for Profit 501©3 organization that provides college scholarships
for first generation immigrant students or students who have lost a parent to a violent
act. Noreen and her husband, Tom, have five children two sons, Brendan (wife- Nancy)
and Thomas graduates of Chaminade High School and Marist College and Georgetown
University respectively and three daughters, all of whom are Alumnae of Sacred Heart
Academy: Katie Costello ’99 (retired Captain in the United State Marine Corps. USNA
‘03,) (husband-Major Graham Perry USMC) Christine Costello ’00 (Georgetown ’04)
and Mary Grace Costello ’05 (FIT ’09). Noreen is also the proud grandmother of Katie
and Graham’s children, Jack and Charlotte.
Danielle DiBari ’98
is uniquely gifted and often impacts organizations’
productivity and long term success, with her powerful vision of bringing purpose into
the people equation to promote healthy, productive and meaningful work cultures.
She is Vice President of Clinical Operations and is a member of the executive office

for the Mount Sinai Health System where she is responsible for unifying, coordinating
and operating the health system’s operational efforts to maximize their impact on the
patients and communities served. Danielle also serves at the Health System Chief of
Staff, to identify and drive efficiency throughout the Health System. Dr. DiBari joined the
Mount Sinai System in 2015 from North Shore-LIJ and prior, CVS/Caremark, where she
held positions on the Corporate Management Team. Her varied career includes strategic
planning; business unit development; project and product management; marketing
and branding; system strategies; training and development program management
and delivery; the management of multi-functional work teams; and customer service.
Danielle has a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. John’s University, certifications from
Harvard University for Project Management and serves as a Healthcare Innovation Team
Member at MIT. She is also a faculty member at the Hofstra School of Medicine. She is
the recipient of the 2009 National Highest Growth Revenue Award from the Industry
of Retail Pharmacy. She is an active member of The Network of Executive Women,
American Society of Health System Pharmacists, American Pharmacists Association,
has sat on the advisory board for AutoBytel, volunteered with CVS Caremark serving
at national health fairs and is a member of the Project Management in Healthcare
committee with Harvard University’s School of Public Health.
Karen Danca Smith ’91 is an inspiring academic and spiritual educator for
all ages. A K-12 teacher for Long Beach Catholic Regional School (LBCRS), Karen created
and implemented the curriculum for the entire Spanish program and she continues her
decade long work at the Long Beach Adult Learning Center where she teaches English
as a Second Language to adult immigrants from around the world. Karen co-hosts
“Good News with Msgr. Jim and Karen”, during which she educates Telecare’s millions
of viewers by sharing inspirational stories of people in the Rockville Centre Diocese and
across the nation who give back to the Church and their communities. Karen is currently
pursuing a second master’s degree, M.S. Edcuation Administration and Supervision, at
Fordham University’s Center for Catholic School Leadership and Faith-based Education.
She is the author of a story included in the book Chicken Soup for the Soul: Answered
Prayers about her experience with her son, Gavin. As an infant, Gavin was treated and
healed at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Since then, Karen has raised over
$25,000 for their Pediatric Center by running marathons and triathlons with “Fred’s
Team” in Gavin’s honor and in gratitude to the medical team at MSKCC. Karen’s service
extends to Chaclacayo, Peru where she traveled on a mission trip in July 2014 to care for
destitute, critically ill and severely disable children at El Hogar de San Francisco de Asia.
She started an annual fundraiser at her school to raise critical funds for this home. Karen
resides in Long Beach with her husband Andrew, who is a Vice Principal at LBCRS, and
their children, Nora (10) and Gavin (7), who are both students at LBCRS.
