THE SACRAMENT OF FIRST HOLY COMMUNION (EUCHARIST) 2015
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the next stage of your child’s journey in faith, the Sacrament of the Eucharist. As
you are aware your child’s most significant education in faith occurs within your family.
What happens within your family shapes not only your child’s appreciation of God, but also
their feelings toward the Church and their experience with God through the sacraments. In
our Parish a ‘Parish based’ family programme is offered to you, supported by the Parish
team. This enables you, with assistance, to lead your child in the next step of their
Sacramental journey.
You are invited to a Parent (only) Information and Enrolment Night 7.00pm at Sacred
Heart Church on Wednesday 18 March. There is no pressure on you to commit to this
programme but it is understood that if you would like to take this journey with your child
then full participation in the programme would be necessary. We welcome you to “come and
see”, to be challenged, to have any concerns explained and your own faith nurtured.
The Parish Sacramental Team supported by the Parish Council, look forward to assisting you
in 2015.
The process of preparing for First Eucharist involves accepting Jesus’ invitation to “come and
see” (Jn 1:39). It summons our children to join others, on the spiritual journey that began
when you chose Baptism for your child. If you have continued to support your child through
their faith journey, and your child is in Year 4 or above, then you are invited to present them
for the next stage of their faith development, the Sacrament of Eucharist (Holy Communion).
Please complete the enrolment form on our website www.mhoc.org.au at least one week
before the Parent Information Night on 18 March. This will register your child in the
programme, please note you are still required to attend the information night to be given all
relevant documentation and confirm the registration. If you wish to obtain a paper copy of the
enrolment form, please contact the Parish office.
The date of First Holy Communion this year is 6.00pm Mass on Saturday 23rd or 8.30am
or 10.00am on Sunday 24 May 2015. This is the Feast Day of our Parish, Mary Help of
Christians. All programme dates can be found on the Parish website.
Please pass this information on to any non-Catholic School parents and children you may
know who may be unaware of the programme and ask them to contact the Parish Office on
