November 2014 Indiana Society of Pediatric Dentistry Spring Meeting Dear Members of the Indiana Alumni Pediatric Dental Alumni Association and the Indiana Society of Pediatric Dentistry: Please join us for our spring conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Historic Union Station in Indianapolis. We are excited about our joint continuing education program that our two organizations have scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Friday’s continuing education presentation is on Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology: Clinical Update, by IUSD faculty member, Dr. Paul C. Edwards. Dr. Edwards is a Professor in the Dept. of Oral Pathology, Medicine and Radiology. In the afternoon, we have scheduled a tour of the Riley Dental Clinic. If you have not been back to the clinic in a while you will not want to miss this tour. On Friday evening the Alumni Association will have a suite in the Crowne Plaza for both organizations to enjoy before and after your dinner plans. Indiana Society of Pediatric Dentistry Spring Meeting Indiana University Pediatric Dentistry Alumni Biennial Conference Friday, April 17, 2015 8:00 a.m. – Noon Grand Central Room A & B Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology: Clinical Update (4 CEUS) Dr. Paul Edwards This clinically oriented course will review the most common and important non-dental conditions presenting in the pediatric patient. The emphasis will be on how to readily identify and manage the more common and/or important of these lesions. Participants will have multiple opportunities to practice developing a logical differential diagnosis. The course is designed such that participants will be able to incorporate the information reviewed in this course immediately upon returning to your dental practice. Dr. Paul C. Edwards is Professor in the Dept. of Oral Pathology, Medicine and Radiology. Dr. Edwards received his MSc in Biochemistry and DDS from the University of Toronto and his specialty in oral and maxillofacial pathology from Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a member of the American Dental Association. After finishing his residency training, Dr. Edwards accepted a position as Assistant Professor at Creighton University, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was subsequently recruited to the University of Michigan as a Clinical Associate Professor in 2007 and was promoted to the rank of Clinical Professor in 2012. Dr. Edwards is editor of the Oral Pathology section of the journal “Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology”, the official journal of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, the Canadian Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Medicine, and the Brazilian and Chilean Oral Pathology associations. His research interests include the pathophysiology of nonneoplastic lesions of the jaws, pathogenesis of salivary gland neoplasia, and clinical management of vesiculobullous disease. Dr. Edwards maintains a private clinical practice, treating oral pathology/oral medicine patients in the School of Dentistry’s Dental Faculty Practice, and also participates in the School of Dentistry’s Surgical Oral Pathology Biopsy Service.
