Scripture Reflection: The Good Shepherd was a common depiction of Jesus in the early church.
The first Christians knew well the role of a shepherd with his sheep: to care for them, seek out those who
wandered, travel with them during the day, and sleep with them at night to protect them. The shepherd was a
guardian and close companion to the sheep, who would be lost without him. This understanding of Jesus
speaks of the closeness of the Lord to all who follow Him and respond to His call.

Knights of Columbus News
St. Augustine K of C are hosting a Major Degree on
Sunday, May 3rd. We are inviting everyone to the
Banquet that evening starting at 6pm in the St.
Augustine Gym. The tickets are $30. The deadline for
ticket sales will be Tuesday, April 28th. If you would

The rhythm of the Contemplative Mass is a
gentle, steady flow, marked by 20 minutes of
silence after Communion. It is designated to allow
space for reflection and recognition of the intimate
presence of Christ who comes to us through
Scripture and the Eucharist. Silence within this
form of worship can feel uncomfortable or
awkward, especially when experienced for the
first time. We encourage you to relax and rest in
the abiding presence of Christ.

St. Augustine is a warm, welcoming
school that focuses on faith and
learning. Not only do we strive to
see students reach their full
potential in the classroom, we teach
children that they have what it takes to reach out and
make the world a better place. If your child will be five
years old by January 31, 2016, they can begin
Kindergarten in September 2015. Please inform your
neighbours who have Kindergarten aged children
about what we offer at St. Augustine School. To learn

Baptism Calls Us to Make a Difference!
Jesus is the face of God to us. And baptism tells us
that we are the face of Jesus to the world. This is
relatively easy if we picture Jesus as a mellow,
popular miracle worker. It becomes more difficult if we
listen and try to put into practice some of the
teachings of Jesus about himself and what he expects
of his disciples.
Jesus calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the
world. He calls us to change the world with him. He
doesn’t give us a list of DON’TS. Rather he gives us a
list of DO’S. Imagine what the world would be like if
we all remembered that we are to reflect Jesus. If you
can imagine it, you can help do it. At least, Jesus
thinks so. And it is the promise of baptism that God is
always with us, supporting our efforts, our growth, our
commitment to be the presence of Jesus in the world.

Gratitude—Developing your “gratitude attitude” is a
conscious effort, yet changes the way in which we
perceive daily life, and helps us to recognize God’s place
in it.
Living gratefully calls us to be aware of our blessings,
even in moments of difficulty. It helps us to see God’s
hand in our lives. We might otherwise miss this
awareness of God’s presence.
Each time we are tempted to whine, to focus on what we
want, or to look at all that is not the way we wish it were,
we must turn our minds instead toward the many ways in
which we have been blessed. Over time, this
gratefulness-mindset becomes more natural.
Recognizing God as the Giver of every good gift and
being mindful of our blessings each day changes our
inner life with God and our interactions with others.
Coming to Mass aware of all we have to be thankful for
opens our minds and hearts to the fullness of Christ’s
presence with us.
Ways to grow in gratitude: Begin each day by thanking
God for the wonder of His love. Become more conscious
of each day, and find the joy in it. Thank your family and
friends for their love and care.
YOUTH NEWS
KIDS FOR CHRIST (Ages 4—Grade 3)
are welcome to come and share their faith through
singing, games, skits, challenges, and more! This
entertainingly educational group meets once a
month in the gym after Sunday Mass. It is
completely free and includes a K4C shirt and a
cross necklace when you join! Our two events are
April 19th—Abraham and Sarah & May 24th—
Good Samaritan.

CHILDREN’S
LITURGY:
(at Sunday Mass only) Children are
encouraged to learn about God’s word through
Children’s Liturgy. There is no registration required!
Children learn the Gospel messages in a “kid
friendly” way, through a story, discussion, crafts,
games, and role-playing. If your child is younger
than 3, you are encouraged to join them and help
the teacher out.
