Saint John the Evangelist
“Be not simply good, be good for something!”
... This is ‘Good Shepherd Sunday’, from the Gospel for today (26), and is World Day of Prayer for
Vocations to the Priesthood. Pray for and support
our priests, and nurture vocations by your own
faith, goodness and joy! It’s not about other people, it’s about our celebration of God’s goodness!
... Today (26) is the 14th Anniversary of the death
of Deacon Richard Corder, who joyfully served
here at Saint John for many years. Dick preached
at daily Mass, and put great joy into baptisms and
funerals! His dear wife, Virginia, keeps in touch
with us. May he rest in peace. A good shepherd!
... Hey, have you considered becoming a priest?
Do you want a life of meaning and purpose? Shepherds wanted! Father Brian or Father Joseph
would be glad to give you more info!
... Where will you be on Saturday and Sunday,
August 8 and 9? Hopefully, right here at Saint
John at our Fiesta de Las Flores! Mark those dates!
It’s a fun time for all!
… Tickets for our Fiesta Grand Drawing, with
prizes of $5,000, $2,500, $1,000 and $500, are $2
each or a book of 15 for $25. Our children in our
School and Religious Education experiences will
be bringing them home soon! Please return them
and watch for the early bird’ drawings!
... Contributions last weekend (19) amounted to
$16,358.00, with 402 families using envelopes. A
further $4,059.56 was contributed by 60 families
‘Online’! You make our ministry possible!
... Because of an unfortunate error on our part,
we ask that all of our ‘Online Givers’ please go to
our website, click on the ‘Giving’ button, and resubmit your bank or credit card information, so
that your ‘Online Giving’ can resume. It stopped
posting on March 31. Sorry and thank you!
... Congratulations and a hearty welcome to our
Saint John School children as they celebrate their
First Eucharist this weekend (26). Awesome!
... 61 of 0ur Religious Ed children celebrated their
First Reconciliation on Thursday (23)! Wow!
… Our Saint John School May Crowning is this
Friday(1) at 1:45pm. All are welcome!
... Our Annual Catholic Appeal assists the extensive ministry of our Diocese. Please make a meaningful pledge that you will strive to meet over the
next eight months. ‘Thank you’ to all who have already made a pledge!
April 26, 2015
... Tuesday (28) is the 8th Anniversary of the
tragic death of Father Walter Vogel OSA, who was
born in 1935 on Ecke Farm here in Encinitas, and
whose family is ever with us. Father Walt was ordained a priest in 1963, and served for many years
as a counselor at Saint Augustine High School in San
Diego. He was readily available for ‘weekend supply’ in parishes, and was a gourmet ‘cook’! At the
time of his death, following a tragic automobile
accident, he was to a popular Associate, and soon to
be Pastor, at Our Mother of Good Counsel, in Hollywood. A mighty shepherd! May he rest in peace.
... This Thursday (30) is the 12th Anniversary of
the death, from cancer, of Father Eduardo Gudino
at the young age of 42. Ordained in 1994, his first
assignment was here at Saint John. Another good
shepherd! May he too rest in peace.
... San Diego Blood Bank is with us this Wednesday (29), Thursday (30) and Friday (1), 1:30pm to
6:30pm each day, right outside the church. A great
opportunity to give the ‘gift of life’!
... We welcome two of Monsignor Harnett’s nephews and a niece, visiting from Ireland and Australia,
‘checking up’ on both Monsignor and their aunt,
Sister Winnie! Céad míle fáilte!
... The Sunday 9:00am Mass is streamed live to
the Internet each week. Connect to it from our
website, or go to www.saintjohnlive. It’s an effort to
assist our homebound to be even more part of our
family of Saint John.
... For Young Adults (18-39 years) activities visit
www.yamsd.org
… Our popular Saint John Summer Bible Camp is
from Monday, July 13, to Friday, July 17. For
more info, call Ann McGinnis at 760 436-0664.

you can, please RSVP to Rick at 760 978-9831.
... “No one takes my life from me! I give it up of
my own free will!”

YO SOY EL BUEN PASTOR
El Cuarto Domingo de Pascua tradicionalmente se
conoce como el “Domingo del Buen Pastor”. Hoy
escuchamos las palabras
del Señor cuando se llama
a sí mismo “el buen pastor
que da la vida por sus
ovejas.”
alrededor –a construir y no a destruir.
santo Job.
