CHURCH STARTING BANQUET
Theme: Any Church Can!
TUESDAY, MAY 12, 2015 AT 6:30 PM
Churchill Baptist Church
12400 Vista View, San Antonio, TX 78231
As the population of San Antonio grows we must start new churches to reach
every area of our city and the many different people groups. Jesus commanded
his followers, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching
them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matt 28:19-20) Any church
can participate. A church can start a new work or team with other churches to
fund a new church or generously
donate to the Lone Star Church
Starting Offering. Alex and Cassandra
Fleming
This year’s Church Starting
Banquet features testimonies
from church starters about their
triumphs and challenges of
starting a church in San Antonio. Herb and Sandra
Halbeisen
Speakers are: Alex Fleming,
Herb Halbeisen and Ben Hanna. Tom Revilla of Life Church will bring special music.
Attending the Church Starting Banquet is an opportunity to participate in
raising funds to assist new Church Starters. Tables of 8 are available for $320.00
or individual tickets may be purchased for $40.00. Make reservations and purchase your tickets by calling Gail at 210.525.9954
or [email protected].
If you cannot attend please choose to contribute generously to the Lone Star
Church Starting Offering by calling San Antonio Baptist Association.
If you would like more information on how you can be involved
in Church Starting, contact Roland Lopez at 210.525.9954 or
[email protected].

LeaderTip:
Great Leaders Live a Life of Prayer!
(fourth in a series of eight)
Singing Men and Singing
Women of Texas Coming
to San Antonio
In the mid-1980’s Jack Taylor, then pastor of Castle Hills First Baptist
Church here in San Antonio, travelled the nation with a team of other leaders
promoting prayer. At one conference I attended he commented, “No church’s
effectiveness will ever rise above the prayer level of the pastor!” His comment
indicates that you can’t give people what you don’t have! Pastors who have a
weak prayer life will find it difficult to lead the church into a thriving relationship
with God.
The South Texas Chapters of the
Singing Men of Texas and Singing
Women of Texas will perform in a
combined choir concert, Saturday,
May 16th at 6:30 pm at
Shearer Hillls Baptist Church, 12615,
San Antonio, TX 78216
Church consultants Gary McIntosh & Daniel Reeves have discovered
from their vast experience of being seminary professors, pastors, consultants,
denominational leaders and missiologists that, “Regardless of the state of a
church’s overall health, the state of the pastor’s and leaders’ spiritual life is,
without question, the most important single reason why some churches are
growing and others are declining in numbers. Indeed, for the vast majority of
churches, spiritual dynamics are the principal factor for growth and health.
Where churches are growing, spiritual energy is being generated.” (Thriving
Churches in the 21st Century)

How Can Ministers Grow in Prayer?
Conquer Your Fear of Intimacy -- Far too many ministers have baggage
from our past, parents or earlier experiences within the church. We protect
ourselves from anyone, even God, who might get too close.
Realize Satan’s Plan -- Satan is very powerful and cunning. He loves to
prevent the minister from praying, often through distractions and preoccupations.
He seeks to discourage us at every turn and is threatened when the minister
and church gets serious about praying.
Stop Talking -- Prayer is conversation, not a sermon where you are constantly
talking! Listen to the voice of God. Pay attention to His movement, His guidance
and His gentle promptings.
Get Rid of the List -- You need a list when your wife sends you to the
grocery store. You don’t need a list when you are in the presence of God! There
is so much more to prayer than the prayer of intercession.
Worship God in Prayer -- R.A. Torrey’s life completely changed when he
learned not only to pray and thank God, but when he began to worship God
– asking nothing of God and seeking nothing from God, just being occupied
with God.
Live in Prayer -- Grandmother taught me, God is in front, back, on my right
and left side. He is below me and above me. Literally, he surrounds me. If so,
I should live as though he is present at all times, eager to have a conversation
with me throughout the day. Prayer is a relationship, not just a scheduled time
on a calendar.
May we all be more intentional in growing and progressing in prayer!

DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS
Dr. Darrell Hor
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ. Eph 1:2
Until He returns, Darrell
As I look forward to the days ahead, there are three
fundamental truths that guide me: the Great Commission and
the two Great Commandments. With all fidelity and strength it
is my desire to join with you in furthering the Kingdom of God,
here in San Antonio and surrounding areas, in the state of Texas,
in the United States, and around the world. Thank you for the
gracious welcome we have received and the opportunity to
work with you in furthering God's Kingdom.
During our 32 years of marriage, God has blessed us with
5 children and by the end of the summer, 6 grandchildren.
For the last 10+ years, I served as the Director of Missions for
San Felipe Association located in southwest Houston. Prior
to that position, Karen and I served as missionaries with the
International Mission Board in Latin America. We are grateful for
God's new assignment in SABA.
It is such a privilege to be here in San Antonio, following
God's leadership in joining His work in and through SABA.
Karen and I want to express our deep appreciation to
all of you, to the search committee, to the staff, and to others
for the extensive hours of prayer and seeking God's direction
for the future of SABA. We are humbled that God has given
us the opportunity to join you in His work. SABA has a great
history of faithful men and women God has used to accomplish
His purposes. We are pleased to become an active part of the
present and future of SABA.
