Inspiring Athletes attending the Saskatchewan Marathon
The Race Committee is pleased to announce some special guests joining us this weekend for the
Saskatchewan Marathon.
Silvia Ruegger, 1984 Summer Olympic Games athlete who finished eighth in the women's marathon
competition, will speak at the Pasta Dinner brought to you by Craven S P O R T services -Saturday, May
30 at 5 PM at TCU Place. Ruegger is the National Director of Start2Finish Running and Reading Clubs
across Canada that inspires kids to become active and focus on reading skills. The Saskatoon Club,
located at King George Community School, has been training since September. 40 students and 20
leaders will run the 5K event.
Kimberly Kotar will run the marathon to raise awareness for Transverse Myelitis. Kotar was diagnosed
with the disease in 2006, and was told that she could forget about running another marathon, and even
walking would be difficult. However, she beat the odds and has been running ever since. In 2010 Kotar
spearheaded the development of the Canadian Transverse Myelitis Association to help others with rare
neuro-immunological diseases. She decided to run a marathon in every province to raise awareness and
funds for this devastating disease. To date, she had completed a marathon in 8 provinces and after this
weekend, has just British Columbia to complete.
The Saskatchewan Marathon is now in its 37th year. More than 3300 participants are registered for the
Saskatchewan Marathon events in 2015 event and the Race Committee, and we are looking forward to
some great battles at the finish line!
