Live up to the standards of sportsmanship established by the school administration and the coaching staff. Learn the rules of the game thoroughly and discuss them with parents, fans, fellow students and elementary students. This will assist you in the achievement of a better understanding and appreciation of the sport. Treat fellow teammates and opponents the way you would like to be treated, as a guest or friend. Who better can understand all the hard work and team effort that is required of your sport. Wishing opponents good luck before the contest. Congratulate them in a sincere manner following either victory or defeat. Respect the integrity and judgment of officials. The officials are doing their best to help promote you and your sport. Treating them with respect, even if you disagree with their judgment, will make a positive statement about you and your team. Rules of Dodgeball The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them "OUT". This may be done by: 1. Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders. 2. Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground. Definition: LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything, including the floor/ground, another ball, another player, official or other item outside of the playing field (wall, ceiling, etc) 3. All players must remain within boundaries 4. A player cannot hold the ball for longer than five seconds 5. Throwing the ball through the opposing team’s basketball hoop brings back all the players on your team 6. Game begins by placing the dodgeballs along the center line – three (3) on one side of the center hash and three (3) on the other. Players then take a position behind their end line. Following a signal by the official, teams may approach the centerline to retrieve the balls. This signal officially starts the contest. Teams may only retrieve the three (3) balls to their right of the center hash. Once a ball is retrieved it must be taken behind the attack-line before it can be legally thrown. 7. Kicking the ball will result in a player being “out” 8. There is a time-limit of seven minutes on each game 9. At the end of seven minutes, if there is not a winner, the team with the most players wins 10. In the event of a tie in the number of players, both teams are back “in”, and the balls are set up in the center 11. Both teams then are allowed to rush the center, and the team to lose its first player loses the game 12.
