The Newsletter of the Biddeston School Don’t ruin a good today by thinking about a bad yesterday. LET IT GO!
Dear Parents, Families and Community Members,
We are very excited about our win with The Chronicle Classroom Makeover. Thank you to the many people who collected
and sent in tokens each week. We had a total of 3 196 tokens. Thank you to Mrs Kruger, Mrs Bess and Mrs Ziebell for
their extra collections and counting. We will have $5 000 to spend on classroom resources for the students. The music
room is set to receive a makeover.
I am sure you will agree that our entrance way and landscaping is looking very flash. It has been very exciting to watch
the progress. This work has been made possible by the New Hope Group grant, secured by our P&C grant writer, Mrs Hart.
We had a number of students who participated in a range of activities last week. I was fortunate to attend the
performance by the Choir Camp students on Friday night at Pittsworth. Well done Breeanne, Cianna, Danielle and Eva on
your fabulous singing and performance. Thank you to Mrs Huffam for her assistance with the Choir Camp with singing,
transport and supervision.
The Year 5/6 students also had a great time at their leadership camp at Emu Gully. With the focuses on working as a
team and facing challenges, the students did themselves proud. Thank you to parents who assisted with transport. Thank
you Mr Young for doing a top job of organising the camp for the cluster.
The cross country was successful on Monday, with all students running extremely well. Congratulations to Kayla and
Danielle for breaking the cross country record for their age groups. Danielle’s was an 18 year old record!
Well done to all students on their effort and sportsmanship at cross country.
Congratulations to Nicholas D, Kayla, Yana, Ruby, Dustin L, Fletcher, Nickolas H, Danielle, Sally-ann, Eva, Madison,
Lachlan, Christopher and Dustin A who will continue on to represent Biddeston SS at the Rossvale cross country on
Wednesday 22nd April at 9:30am. So, keep training guys! That is the 3rd day of Term 2. For the first time, 8 year old
will get the opportunity to participate in the Rossvale event.
Next term, we will be holding a Dawn Service at school on Saturday 25th April. We will gather at 5:15am at the Cecil
Plains Rd flagpole, for the service to commence at 5:25am. Please find an order of service with this newsletter.
I would like to thank all parents and the school community for the many different contributions each person and family
makes for our students and school. We have had many events this term and offering these is only possible by the
support of parents. Biddeston SS is truly a great school!
Curriculum Students have been busy this week working on assessments. We will be holding parent teacher interviews
early next term. Curriculum tip: Reading aloud brings literature to our children. Literature expands our minds. It
exposes children to new and different perspectives, cultures, points, of view, contexts, situations, phenomena... It
teaches children to be open-minded, versatile and curious.
Netball Gala Day
This will be held at the Pittsworth Football Grounds on Thursday, 2nd April. All students in Years 3-6 have been
invited to participate in skills and drills sessions, as well as a round robin competition. The students will be travelling to and from
Pittsworth on the bus, leaving at 8:50am and returning at 3pm. Students will need to take a hat, water, lunch and wear school uniform.
P&C The next meeting will be tonight, Wednesday 1st April in the school library. There will be a Special Meeting held
from 6pm, before the general meeting, to adopt the 2015 P&C Constitution.
Chess The chess club is in full swing on Monday afternoons after school, and will continue in Term 2. Thank you Mr and
Mrs Strasser for your expertise in chess.
Active After Schools – Sporting Schools Active After Schools has been changed to ‘Sporting Schools’. We have been
approved to run this program for Term 2. This program involves a coach to run a sporting activity after school each
week. I will send home information about this as soon as it comes to hand.
Facilities We will have work starting at school soon, under the Fixing our Schools program. Projects include paving
outside the sports shed, bird netting installed under the covered outdoor learning area, replacing the lichen covered
shade sail and fixing some leaks in roofs.
Professional Development The teachers attended professional development on using iPads on Tuesday afternoon.
I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Easter break and look forward to seeing everyone again next term. School resumes
on Monday 20th April.
Kind Regards,
Sharon
