Prague — Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) has
developed VBS Gateway, a new, user-­friendly gateway
application for VBS3, which allows for interoperability
using HLA and DIS protocols and will soon enable VBS3
to support CIGI (Common Image Generator Interface).
Distributed Interactive Simulations (DIS) and High­
Level Architecture (HLA) are the standards which allow
different simulations to “talk” to each other.
VBS3 (Virtual Battlespace 3) is a desktop tactical
trainer and mission rehearsal software tool designed
to help warfighters learn to think, communicate and
make decisions. VBS3 is the flagship of the the U.S.
Army’s Games for Training Program of Record and
is used by NATO and most major western militaries.
VBS3 is frequently used in simulation settings where
interoperability is integral to accomplishing key
training objectives.

FOR VBS3 INTEROPERABILITY
“VBS3 users will notice performance improvements
between VBS3 with VBS Gateway and our previous DIS/
HLA application, particularly when dealing with larger
numbers of moving entities,” said Arthur Alexion, CO­CEO
of Bohemia Interactive Simulations. “In addition, this new
application will make administration of VBS3
interoperability easier and more intuitive.”
VBS Gateway introduces the ability to make live updates,
even in the middle of a training scenario, between entities
in VBS3 and other external simulations. VBS3 v3.7 and
future versions will come standard with VBS Gateway and
will automatically connect to other VBS Gateway clients
out of the box with no configuration changes.
VBS Gateway also provides smoother transitions with
dead reckoning and offers more stable visualization. In
addition, VBS Gateway features user­friendly tools for
editing, allowing users to filter and sort entities using
VBS Gateway is the premier HLA/DIS gateway application for VSB3
v3.7, providing greater interoperability performance.

BISim utilized Pitch Technologies’ Developer Studio to
create VBS Gateway. The Developer Studio generates C++
and Java code, supports any domain or FOM (Federated
Object Model), and supports common RTIs and all
HLA versions.
LVC Game from Calytrix Technologies, which has served
as the HLA/DIS gateway for previous version of VBS3, will
continue to ship with VBS3 and be available to customers
who have previously licensed it.
