Thank You For
Your Support
Thank you to everyone who voted for us in the elections
on 7 May. Unfortunately the results were disappointing
for us as the Conservative Party won all three local
council seats (beating David Watts by just six votes) and
Stan Heptinstall came fourth in the General Election but
we are deeply grateful to everyone who voted for us.
We would like to congratulate the winning three
candidates for the borough council and also Anna
Soubry who was re-elected as the Member of
Parliament. It is a great honour to represent Bramcote
and we wish them all well in their new roles.
The new make up of the council is that there are 27
Conservative councillors, 12 Labour councillors, 4
Liberal Democrat councillors and 1 independent
councillor.
Although we no longer have a Liberal Democrat borough
councillor in Bramcote both County Councillors are
Lib-Dems and any of our team will still be happy to try
and help with any issues that they can. Our contact
details are over the page. Do feel free to get in touch at
any time.
Massive Growth In Lib-Dem Members
Although the election results were very disappointing for
us events since then have been much more
encouraging. Over 12,000 people joined the Liberal
Democrats nationally in the week after the election and
locally the number of members went up by 50% in the
same period. We hope that this growth in membership
will continue as every member we have helps us as a
campaigning force, both nationally and locally. If you
would like to join us we would love to have you. Just tick
the box overleaf return it to us and we will be in touch.
A years membership of the Liberal Democrats costs
from just £12 or £1 for students or those under the age
of 26. You can also join online by visiting
www.libdems.org.uk/join.
Reduction In Police Cover In
Bramcote
The Labour Police and Crime Commissioner for
Nottinghamshire, Paddy Tipping, has announced
plans to slash the number of Police Community
Support Officers in the county by 20% and to
redeploy those who remain into the city centre.
This means that we face a very real risk of losing
PCSO Chris Archer who has served Bramcote
for a number of years.
The Commissioner tried to make these changes
without
any
public
consultation
or
announcements and it was investigative work by
the Broxtowe Liberal Democrats which brought
these proposals into the public arena.
We are utterly opposed to what the
Commissioner is planning. He recently put up
the police share of the council tax significantly
but expects Bramcote residents to pay more for
a substantially worse service. We will be
campaigning to prevent these proposals going
through.
Broxtowe Enews
We produce Focus leaflets every quarter to keep
Bramcote residents informed of events that affect
our community, but did you know that we also
produce a weekly email newsletter. This covers
local news, events and information and is
available free of charge to anyone. To sign up
just
send
an
email
to
[email protected] and
we’ll add you to the hundreds of local residents
who already receive it. We don’t provide your
email details to anyone else so you won’t be
inundated with junk emails by signing up.

Thank You From The Mayor
Road Closures
As his time as the Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe
comes to an end Stan Heptinstall would like to thank
all the local residents who have helped make it such
a special year. Over the past 12 months Stan has
attended many hundreds of functions as the mayor
and he says that it has been the most enjoyable year
of his life. The new mayor will be Labour councillor
Sue Bagshaw and the deputy mayor will be
Conservative councillor Graham Harvey.
The County Council have announced the dates for
road resurfacing in Bramcote. Town Street will be
closed between the A52 and Peache Way for
carriageway and footway resurfacing from 7am on
27th July to 5pm on 21st August. Cow Lane will be
closed between Town Street and Beeston Fields
Drive from 7am on 17th August to 5pm on 21st
August. The resurfacing work comes directly as a
result of action by the Liberal Democrats, along with
the recent repairs to Bridle Road and Coventry Lane.
We have also been lobbying for other roads to be
treated urgently. We will continue to lobby for these
to be attended to.
Hemlock Happening
The 2015 Hemlock Happening will take place on
Saturday 6 June. This will be the 71st anniversary of
D-Day and this will be reflected in the theme. The
programme starts at 1pm and will finish at 10.30pm
with a mass firework display. The programme
contains a host of free activities for all the family
including dance workshops, arts and crafts, various
sports, cake decorating, a treasure hunt, a wide range
of food and drink stalls and much, much more. There
will also be a display on the Chilwell Munitions
Tragedy which occurred in 1918. The activities on the
rest of the park will run from 1pm to 6pm. Everyone
is welcome to attend and the event is free to enter.
Focus Deliveries
We have a great team of volunteers who help
deliver Focus leaflets across Bramcote but we are
always looking for more people to join them. Could
you help? Focus comes out four times a year and
each delivery round takes between half an hour and
45 minutes. If you would like to join our team please
ring David Watts on 0115 854 4031.
