The Annual Camp is a major component of the school’s field program,
and is therefore also an important element of the curriculum for
students of our school.
The camp affords opportunities for learning in situations many of our
students experience rarely at home, in groups, teams, or with school
peers.
Please remember that we expect students to attend for the full period of
their camp. If this is not possible, for some exceptional reason, you will
need to negotiate this with the Camp Co-ordinator.

We also offer a 3 day program Monday to Wednesday for our Home
Tutors. It is strongly recommended that you attend the Home Tutor
sessions. An effective three-way partnership between students, home
tutors and teachers is seen as vital to the educational success of the
school.

their students and take them home/accommodation after the event

after the sports have finished.
Cultural and Wellbeing Day
On Friday, 29th May 2015 commencing at 8.45am all students from eKindy to Year 12 will
be involved in a Cultural & Wellbeing Day. Students will be engaged in a rotation of
activities throughout the day, the highlight of which will be a Chinese Lion performance.
Parents are invited to attend. Students will participate in storytelling and silhouette artistry
and puppetry activities throughout the day. Students need to dress appropriately for school.
CSDE will be providing a Multicultural Morning Tea and Lunch for eKindy-12 students and
home tutors. Please contact Jody Johnstone on 4080 9108 or email [email protected]
The Home Tutor In-service Program will be organised from Monday, 25th May to

likely to experience difficulties, please contact Fiona Candlish on 4080 9203 so that a

Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students
The Responsible Behaviour Plan for students refers to expectations of student behaviour
during the week’s activities. In the Parent Permission Forms there is a clause regarding
expectations of student behaviour during the week’s activities. Please refer to this document
and ensure your child/ren are aware of these expectations. A copy of this plan can be found
alongside the camp information contained in the Weekly Mailbag on the school’s website.
Student Health
Please be conscious of your child’s health as you prepare them for the camp week. If they
have any current injury which might be an impediment to their enjoyment and participation
(eg a broken arm), then you should discuss this with the camp co-ordinator.
If your child is carrying a contagious condition (eg school sores or
head lice), or if you suspect that they may become contagious
during the camp period as a result of a prior contact, then you’ll
need to discuss that with the camp co-ordinator. Given that your
child will be in the company of up to one hundred others who will
have come from largely isolated environments, the likelihood is
that, if they are carrying a contagious condition, then they will not
be approved to attend.
24 Hour Medical Care
In the event of an emergency, please contact The 24 Hour Medical Centre, Cnr Florence and
Grafton Streets, Cairns, ph 4052 1119 or Central Plaza Doctors, 60 McLeod Street (opposite
Cairns Central Shopping Centre) ph 4046 8600. Both are 24 hour clinics. Other doctors are
listed in the Yellow Pages under Doctors.
Dental Checks
If you wish your child to receive dental treatment during camp week, please ring Cairns West
School Dental Clinic on 4053 4820 to arrange an appointment. Alternatively ring James
Cook University’s School of Dentistry Clinic on 1290 050 765 (health care cardholders and
children are free). They offer appointments with a pediatric / special needs dentist, as well as
general clean and checkups.
Class Photos
Class group photographs will be taken at Camp this year. The cost of the photo will be $10
and you will receive a laminated 10’ x 8’ class group with names. It is expected your child will
take their school uniform to camp for the photo. (School Uniform T-shirts can be purchased
from the office at a cost of $16.00 for sizes 4-16 and $20.00 for sizes 18-20.)
Photo Order Forms will be sent out with your camp documents. If you wish to purchase a
class group photograph, a keepsake for both students and home tutors of your time with
Cairns School of Distance Education, you will need to complete the order form and return
with payment.
Movie Night
The Royal Flying Doctor Service in consultation with Event Cinemas on Grafton Street,
Cairns, are delighted to be able to fund “CSDE at the Flicks” on Thursday, 28th May from
6.30pm. They have kindly organised exclusive hire of the cinema for 200 people including
candy bar snacks for everyone to see the film Home. Taeha Condon from RFDS will make
herself available to attend the event and will introduce the evening with a quick little speech
to the families about the importance of taking time out and connecting with each other.
Home PG (Animated, Adventure, comedy)
When Oh, a loveable misfit from another planet, lands on Earth and finds himself
on the run from his own people, he forms an unlikely friendship with an adventurous
girl named Tip who is on a quest of her own. Through a series of comic adventures
with Tip, Oh comes to understand that being different and making mistakes is all
part of being human. And while he changes her planet and she changes his world,
they discover the true meaning of the word HOME.
