Falls continue to have a dramatic impact on the lives of our seniors. Falls are the most common cause of
TBI which accounts for 46% of fall related deaths. Research shows 95% of hip fractures are related to falls.
The annual cost to the healthcare system of fall related injury is significant, and it is expected to continue
increasing over the next ten years. It is up to rehabilitation professionals to be the experts on balance and
work as interdisciplinary teams to provide good care for those at risk to reduce these numbers and improve
the outcomes for our patients.
This comprehensive lab-based workshop on fall prevention is designed to teach participants to assess the
entire patient and devise a treatment plan that will provide optimal outcomes. Standardized assessments to
reduce risk factors for falls will be combined with a thorough explanation of individualized treatment plans
to broaden your assessment skill set. Vestibular rehabilitation strategies and techniques will be practiced
in a lab format to ensure you leave with treatments that can be implemented the next day. Techniques to
insure compliance, improve documentation efficiency, and optimize reimbursement will be explained and
demonstrated. The techniques learned in this workshop will allow participants to provide better balance
assessments and effective treatments that will be invaluable to you and your staff to prevent falls.
