The care of hand, wrist, and elbow injuries can be a challenge to both the novice and the advanced clinician. A thorough understanding of the unique relationship between anatomy and biomechanics is necessary to allow the clinician to design a comprehensive treatment approach that will allow the individual to resume their normal daily activities in a timely manner. A practical hands-on approach to solving a variety of hand, wrist, and elbow conditions will be presented. This interactive course describes common pathologies, mechanisms of injury, and progressive pre and post-operative treatment involving fractures, sprains/strains and dislocations. Treatment topics include graded motor imagery, exercises, splinting/ positioning, edema, sensibility, ROM, home programs, and the selection of appropriate outcome measures. Participants will learn new treatment techniques to start using immediately after the course. Patient education handouts for common upper extremity conditions will also be provided. The workshop has lab time included for provocative testing techniques and therapeutic taping for the hand, wrist, and elbow.
