RICHARD SMITH
Your local Conservative team in
Leiston Ward
Leiston and the area it serves needs greater choice in food
shopping. We will work to encourage a store like Aldi or Lidl
to open in the centre of the town and ensure its car park can
be shared with cinema-goers each evening.
More affordable homes are needed for the sons and
daughters of local people and, given our ageing
population, more smaller units for senior citizens
are necessary. We will press for these as
requirements within new housing developments.
We support the efforts of the police to keep
Leiston, Theberton and Middleton safe places to
live, work and shop and be an area in which we
can all take pride. Speeding motorists and
parking enforcement need to be tackled in a
determined way and large lorries coming
through, rather than round, Leiston must be
stopped.
About Ian
About Richard
Since serving an Engineering Apprenticeship at Richard Garrett’s, Ian
Pratt has proved himself to be an excellent Engineer, servicing Leiston
built machinery throughout the World. Straight talking, reliable and
hardworking, Ian will represent all of the people of Leiston, Theberton,
Middleton and Eastbridge in a quiet and constructive manner.
Richard Smith has been Leiston’s County Councillor since 2010 and
has earned a reputation for getting things done. He wants to continue
helping the town and villages by being elected to Suffolk Coastal
District Council so that he can directly influence and encourage
greater economic development within our area. It is his experience in
the way local government works and his pride in the Leiston
community that drives him to want to improve our area still further. He
served for seven years as the Chairman of the Sizewell A & B
Stakeholder Group and sits on the Trustee body of the Long Shop
Museum. He is one of the organisers of the event to mark the
centenary of the death of Col. Doughty-Wylie in Theberton on 26 April.
Ian and his family members live in Leiston, he is married to Colette and
includes sea fishing amongst his hobbies, in the past he was the
European Champion at full bore rifle shooting. Retiring Councillor Trevor
Hawkins said: “I am sure that he will make a good Councillor for the
