CH2M HILL has provided services for the delivery of major sports programmes since 1996.
Our services include sport and other facility development, construction, legacy conversion,
and environmental management and regeneration.
National Indoor Sports Arena & Velodrome 2014, Glasgow, Scotland
The National Indoor Sports Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is a venue for the 2014
Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Halcrow Yolles, a CH2M HILL company, is
providing civil & structural engineering and construction design and management services
for this landmark project. Based on designs by Sports Concepts, the multipurpose sports
arena features a 200-metre (219-yard) hydraulic track which will seat 5,000, and a velodrome
with a 250-metre (273-yard) banked timber track which will hold up to 2,000 seated and
500 standing during normal operations. The two main event spaces will be constructed

within a column-free environment, achieved by long-span roof elements designed as threedimensional, tied arches spanning up to 92 metres (100 yards).
The £85 million (US$137 million) world-class facilities will provide a state-of-the art venue
for several events at the 2014 games, a home for community sports and a lasting legacy for
Glasgow and Scotland.
2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, London, England
As one of three firms comprising the international CLM Delivery Partner consortium,
CH2M HILL helped deliver major venues and sustainability strategy for the London 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of the legacy benefits for the host city, the area
is being transformed into the largest urban park created in Europe in more than 150 years,
establishing a strong foundation for economic development and urban renewal.

Vancouver-Whistler 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games British
Columbia, Canada
Anticipating award of the Vancouver 2010 Games, the British Columbia (BC) Ministry of
Transportation planned improvements to enhance highway safety, reliability, and
capacity to the only highway linking Vancouver with the Whistler ski area. As programme
manager for the procurement process (capital value US$700 million), CH2M HILL delivered
the first public-private partnership of a Design-Build-Finance-Operate transport project for
BC. CH2M HILL also assisted the Vancouver Organising Committee to develop a

delivering the Games.

Ali Sami Yen Stadium 2010, Istanbul, Turkey
Halcrow Yolles, a CH2M HILL company, provided design services for a new stadium,
located in downtown Istanbul, to house Turkey’s World Cup contending team. The
stadium accommodates a seating capacity of 52,695, including two full levels of private
boxes and several balcony levels at the north end. The main exterior seating is covered
by cantilevered, steel-framed canopies as well as a corner partial dome which doubles
as a concert bowl. The plan also included a 2,000-car underground parking garage, an

adjacent office tower and a residential complex. The new stadium is known as Ali Sami
Yen Spor Kompleksi.
Atlantic Health Jets Training Centre 2009, New Jersey, US
The state-of-the-art Atlantic Health Jets Training Centre, located in Florham, New
Jersey, is a 12,077-square-metre (130,000-square-feet) athletic, coaching and
management headquarters for the New York Jets football team. The facility features five
outdoor football fields, a fieldhouse, a two-storey office building and other amenities
which include an auditorium and classroom seminar rooms, a coach’s atrium, cafeterias,
an owner’s suite, a corporate hospitality wing and spaces dedicated to health and
fitness, as well as medical training. The impressive fieldhouse shelters an entire football

field and is large enough for entire team practices to be conducted indoors. Halcrow
Yolles, a CH2M HILL company, provided full structural engineering services for the
facility which gives players a competitive advantage and provides an environment with
optimal conditions for learning, practicing and rehabilitating from injuries.
Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games, China
As Environmental Advisor, CH2M HILL worked closely with the Beijing Municipal
Government to develop its successful bid for the Beijing 2008 Games. Following the
selection of Beijing as the site of the Games, CH2M HILL went on to help the Beijing
Olympic Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) develop an Environmental
Management System and Environmental Management Programme, which allowed them
to ensure that environmental pledges made during the bidding phase were fulfilled.

Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Utah, US
CH2M HILL was retained to assess the Salt Lake Committee’s performance in
accomplishing the objectives outlined in the committee’s 12-point Environmental
Platform. We also led design of the University Light Rail Line that transported
commuters to the stadium where opening and closing ceremonies took place. This
design-build project was completed nearly a year before the contractual completion
date. CH2M HILL also provided the radiological response team during the Games.

Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Australia
CH2M HILL developed and implemented an Environmental Management System
and operational analysis to ensure the venues and sports facilities would meet longterm social, cultural and sporting requirements for the people of New South Wales.
Additional work included a risk analysis (facilities and operations) of the potable and
reclaimed water, sewer and stormwater systems of Homebush Bay (central Olympic site)
to identify potential risks and develop risk management strategies related to the water
cycle infrastructure.

Atlanta 1996 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Georgia, US
CH2M HILL assisted with environmental management planning for the operational
phase of the games. We prepared an Environmental Management Plan which was
implemented by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) with our
support. We also provided a baseline assessment and commissioning analysis of
environmental performance for air, water, wastewater, and solid waste at each venue; a
comprehensive audit of Olympic environmental press to identify issues of concern; and
a contingency plan for environmental emergencies.
