Alternative Entry Pathway for Engineering via the B‐SCNCE Multidisciplinary Science Pre‐major (For entry in Semester 1) INTRODUCTION This pathway is designed for those students wishing to pursue an Engineering degree, but do not meet course prerequisites. For students with a sufficient background, this is a one semester enrolment in the Bachelor of Science degree that provides a guaranteed entry into the Engineering Foundation Year (EFY). In one semester, students must pass 100 credits, with a Semester Weighted Average (SWA) of >65% (or > 60%, depending on units studied). All students must study a unit of Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Computing (25 credits each). Successful students transferring into the EFY will find it possible to complete an Engineering degree with a further 8 semesters of full‐time study. In the event that the student does not progress into the EFY, they can continue in Science with the possibility of completing a degree with a further 5 semesters of full‐time study. MATHEMATICS REQUIREMENTS If you have passed… Enrol in… Maths 3C/3D OR TEE Applicable Maths Maths 3A/3B Maths2C/2D OR TEE Discrete Maths REQUIREMENTS Students must meet the entry requirements for the BSc degree: a pass in English (at least 2A/2B or TEE English or equivalent), Maths (at 2C/2D or higher), one Science at 3A/3B and an ATAR 70. In order to meet engineering requirements in one semester students must have passed Maths 3A/3B or equivalent (eg TEE Applicable Maths). Students who do not meet these requirements can be considered, but may require a full year to meet engineering requirements – see below. You must be honest with your answers as EFY have access to your TISC/School results and will not admit any student into Engineering who is essentially repeating a level to get good grades. Credit for Recognized Learning (CRL) is given within the EFY only for the mathematics units equivalent to Engineering Maths units. CRL of up to 100 credits will be possible if continuing in a science degree. Comment MATH1004 Mathematics 1 MATH1008 Calculus and Linear Algebra MATH1007 Pre and Introductory Calculus Maths 1 is equivalent to Engineering Mathematics 1. RPL is given. This is the minimum level of Maths acceptable for entry into engineering. MATH1007 must be followed by MATH1008, usually taken in the next semester. Hence a full year is required to meet engineering requirements. MATH1007may be the only unit studied in Sem 1 – a part‐time enrolment. If they wish, students can enrol in more units.
