T
he Advanced Job Placement Program provides career world work experience and earn wages in their career-
technical students with the opportunity to gain realtechnical program area. Students who qualify for the program
leave school and start working during the second semester of their senior year. To qualify students must meet the following standards—“B”

Medical Office Management Student Wins at Nationals
Seniors Kayla Walters and Allie Thomas traveled to Anaheim to compete in the 2015 Business Professional of America National Leadership
Conference. Allie was awarded second in Medical Office Procedure out
of 72 contestants. Students had to showcase advanced medical terminology, medical abbreviations, office procedures, payroll time cards and
other financial aspects, and many challenging production jobs, such as
medical documents and formatting.

Completion Ceremony SCCTC will have completion exercises
at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday May 14th on the SCCTC front lawn. In
case of inclement weather, exercises will be held at Portsmouth
High School.

We are proud of our student’s achievements and support their continued success!
Ohio SkillsUSA State Conference
O
n Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14th and 15th, forty three SCCTC
students competed, voted, or ran for an office at the 63rd Ohio
SkillsUSA State Conference in Columbus, Ohio. All of the students
represented the SCCTC well. Each event awards its top participants with a
first, second, and third place gold, silver, and bronze medal. The gold
medalists will automatically qualify to compete in the National SkillsUSA
Championship in Louisville, Kentucky June 22nd through the 26th. The
following students were awarded medals in their respective events:
Alexander Otworth, Logan Ervin, Joshua Maggard, and Landon Lozier
(Welding Sculpture) Gold, and Chris Chambers (Building Property
Maintenance Janitorial Skills) Silver. Congratulations to all
participating students.

Ohio High School Masonry Contest
T

he SCCTC Masonry students traveled to Akron,
Ohio on March 13th to compete in this one day
skills competition. Twelve schools and thirty-eight
students from Ohio and Pennsylvania attended. Mr.
Moore, Masonry instructor, said, “ This was a great
real life experience. Competing against the best in
Ohio and Pennsylvania taught students the importance of practice and that hard work always pays
off.” Junior student Kane Traylor commented, “It
was a great experience with my classmates and I’m
looking forward to going again next year”.

Student of the Month
Each month students select the
“Teacher of the Month” through an
on-line voting process. Teachers
receive a certificate of recognition
and a $10.00 gas card.

The selection process is based upon
each student’s daily attendance,
classroom and lab performance,
employability skills, and community
service. Students receive a certificate,

All A Honor Roll
he BPA State Competition was held on March 12th and 13th
in Columbus. Megan Boatman placed in the top ten in
Administrative Research and Connor Jacobs also placed in the
top ten in Fundamentals of Web Design. Allie Thomas placed
first in Medical Office Procedures and Kayla Walters placed 2nd
in Legal Office Procedures. Allie and Kayla advanced to the
Nationals. The BPA National Leadership and Competitive
Events Conference was held in Anaheim, California on May 6th
through May 9th. See our front page for an update on the
National Contest. Congratulations students!

SCCTC National Honor Society
Scioto County Career Technical Center National Honor Society held their annual induction ceremony on May 1st. This year we awarded Jennifer Reynoso with this outstanding achievement.
Nathan Duke
Nathan Duke, Social Studies teacher,
was selected for the month of May. In
addition to his teaching responsibilities Mr. Duke also directs the district’s
intramural sports program and is our
disc jockey for prom. Mr. Duke has
been employed by the district since
2007.
To be eligible a student must have a lab grade of an
“A” for each grading period, a grade of “B-” or better in in all other classes, no disciplinary actions,
membership and participation in a school association, no more than three absences per semester and
be nominated by their career technical instructor.

SKILLSUSA GOLF SCRAMBLE
T
he SKILLSUSA GOLF SCRAMBLE was
held May 9th at 3:00 p.m. at The Elks
Country Club. The entry fee was $220 which
included a Scioto Ribber dinner, door prizes,
longest drive, closest to the pin and longest
putt prizes. 1st place will received $500 and
2nd place received $200 along with individual
plaques awarded to the 1st place team. There
was an optional Skins Game held as well as a
$10,000 hole-in-one prize.
