Program Objectives:
• The program is tailored to help students see
Russia as a player in the global economy and
to understand special characteristics of the
Russian business environment;
• To develop skills in team working, marketing
and business planning, students are supposed
to work in groups on their own business
projects within 2 weeks.
• The projects will be focused on setting up an
enterprise in the Russian market (travel
agency, hotel, translating company, restaurant,
etc.)
Who is eligible:
The program is aimed at students from all over
the world, who think outside the semester,
want to get an experience of staying and learning in Russia and wish to gain an insight into the
Russian mentality, culture and business climate.
Accommodation:
Students are provided with double rooms in the
guarded on-campus dormitory equipped with
cooking and laundry facilities, bed linen and
free wi-fi.

Concept of the program
The Summer School Program “Doing Business in Russia” is tailored to help international
students see Russia as a player in the global economy and to understand special
characteristics of the Russian Business environment, to develop skills in team working,
marketing and business planning. The program is aimed at students from all over the world,
who want to get an experience of staying and learning in Russia and wish to gain an insight into
the Russian mentality, culture and business climate.
Content of the program
Summer School 2015 includes three main courses: Russian History in the context of
Intercultural Management (1 ECTS), Doing Business in Russia (2 ECTS) and Competitive
Strategies in Russia (1 ECTS). The first course examines the evolution of Russian society and
culture from the earliest times to the present day with focus on historical events, foreign
influences and prominent personalities that have shaped Russian culture through centuries. It
introduces students to the development of core values and norms of the Russian people.
The second course aims to make students familiar with the current economic situation in the
Russian Federation; to give them an insight to the Russian market and understanding of the
needs of potential customers from Russia. The course includes Business Game where students
apply in practice the acquired knowledge about Russian market business segments.
The third course let students to build understanding of the principles of competitive struggle on
the Russian markets; to catch the specifics of the Russian business environment; to choose
relevant competitive strategies in different business situations and explain the choice.
Besides theoretical courses students are divided into multinational teams that take part in the
project competition that lasts throughout the entire period of the Summer School program.
During two weeks the teams work on their own enterprise establishment in the Russian market
(shop, micro-brewery, coffee house, bar, language school, hostel, etc.).
The program also includes:
 Guest speakers from business;
 Field assignments according to the team target enterprise (shop, micro-brewery, coffee
house, bar, language school, hostel, etc.)
 Excursions (Hermitage, Peter and Paul Fortress, folk-show etc.)
 Tour to Peterhof.
Final assessment
Every team is to defend its project at the final presentation where projects are to be assessed
considering:
 Concept of the project
 Relevance of the project
 Usage of skills and knowledge gathered with the program
 Team work
 Perspectives of the project implementation in the real business life.
