Children who will most benefit from this twoweek program include those with identified
needs or concerns in fluency/stuttering,
speech sound production, emergent and
early literacy skills or oral language. Children
without specific speech or language
needs are also welcome and will receive
developmentally appropriate language and
literacy enrichment. Children must have
turned 3 by June 1, 2015, but must not be
older than entering the first grade for fall 2015.

Children who will most benefit from this

stuttering, speech sound production, written
and/or oral language or reading. Children
without specific speech or language
needs are also welcome and will receive
developmentally appropriate language and
literacy enrichment.
Session two: July 6-17, 2015

Prolonged speech is a research-supported
approach to smooth, fluent speech for adolescents
and adults who stutter. In a supportive, outcomesfocused context, clients learn speech fluency skills
and learn to manage their stuttering.
CARE DAWGS
Comprehensive Adult
Rehabilitation and Education
Session one: June 15-26, 2015

communication rehabilitation
● Group and individual work to benefit adults with
aphasia, dysarthria or other acquired difficulties
with speech or language
● Support and education for caregivers and
family members
Intensive speech and language treatment is a
research-supported approach to assist individuals
with any type of speech or language problems
after a stroke or other disease or injury. In this
supportive context, clients and families practice
communication skills and gain tools to increase
overall quality of life.
WHAT ARE THE SUMMER
INTENSIVE PROGRAMS?
Available for both children and adults, these
two-week sessions held during the summer help
individuals with speech, literacy and language skills
at a variety of levels.
Programs meet 9 a.m.-noon Monday through
Friday for two weeks. Services will be provided
by graduate student clinicians under the guidance
and supervision of UGA faculty members with all
relevant experience, state licensure and national
certification in speech-language pathology, early
childhood education and special education. To
ensure quality of service, program enrollment will
be limited.
Parents, partners, caregivers or other loved ones
are encouraged to observe or participate during
part or all of the program. A parent or other adult
is required to stay with any participant who cannot
use the toilet independently.

The UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic hosts two twoweek sessions 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday. Sessions
take place in Aderhold Hall on the UGA campus.
Session One: June 15-19 and 22-26, 2015
● Puppy Talk (children ages 3-6)
● CARE Dawgs (adults with acquired speech or
language problems)
Session Two: July 6-10 and 13-17, 2015
● Big Dawgs (children entering grades 2-5)
● Smooth Dawgs (persons who stutter, age 12 and
older)
FEES
Program fee: $500 per participant per 2-week session
Supply fee: $75 for the first participant in each family
(waived for additional family members)
Deposit: $100 deposit (applied to program fee) due
with application
All fees must be paid in full by June 15 for session
one and by July 6 for session two. Monthly payment
schedules may be arranged for March–June,
2015. Financial assistance or scholarships may be
available; please contact Kathy Moss (706-542-3895).
Applications and recent diagnostic, clinical or
educational program information are required and
will be reviewed to assure appropriate placement.
For optimal learning and opportunities, children will
be grouped by age and abilities.
Participants without recent assessment or
evaluation reports may require a separate
appointment for individual screening or evaluation
at the UGA Speech and Hearing Clinic. A separate
evaluation fee may apply.
