1. Executive Overview:
(U) Normalcy appears to be returning to Kathmandu and relief distribution has increased throughout all
districts due to the use of helicopters. District markets are showing signs of recovery: 113 markets were
assessed in 12 districts, and only 4 percent were reported as not functioning. This is a sharp decrease
from the situation on 1 May, when 50 percent of surveyed markets were not functioning. The
government of Nepal (GoN) and humanitarian partners have now reached all affected districts, but have
not reached all affected areas. The GoN agencies are refining information concerning the needs of
affected people, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Populations in Kathmandu IDP camps
have decreased, and many are only there during evening hours. Population movement is taking place
within and across districts. The remainder of displaced people have moved into tents/camps, or are
staying with family or friends. China has cleared debris from a vital road linking Nepal and China. In
order to relieve pressure on Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), many NGOs have begun to transport
relief via overland routes from India to Kathmandu. The Nepalese Army (NA) has confirmed the increase
in the total numbers of homes destroyed to 288,798 and 254,112 damaged.
