BARCELONA
One of the most famous monuments in Barcelona is “La Sagrada Familia”with
its high towers. It is still in construction. The architect who designed the
Holy Church was Antoni Gaudi (1852-1926). The church is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site.

LA BARCELONETA: It's a neighbourhood in the Ciutat Vella, district of
Barcelona. La Barceloneta is known for its sandy beaches and its
many restaurants and nightclubs along the seafront..

GIRONA
Girona is a big city in the North East of Catalonia. The Jewish
quarter is one of the most famous districts in the city.

Tarragona is a city situated in the South of Catalonia. In the past, it was
the major Roman city.

Tarragona is also famous for
its “Castells”. “Els
“Castells” are human
towers built traditionally in
festivals . At these
festivals, several colles
castelleres or teams often
succeed in building and
dismantling a tower's
structure. .
LLEIDA
Lleida is a big city in the West of Catalonia. It is known for “La Seu
Vella”, a gothic cathedral. It is situated on a hill.

Lleida has got nice mountains, beautiful lakes, awsome cliffs... It is a very good place
for skiing, for climbing, for hiking, for kayaking...
GASTRONOMY
CALÇOTS
The CALÇOTS are baked spring onions. We eat them mixed with
some sauce.
They are eaten from January to March.
CARQUINYOLIS
The CARQUINYOLIS are a Catalan variation of biscotti, made with
whole or sliced almonds. They are very sweet.

XURROS
- Hot chocolate is a delicious
breakfast or snack.
- You can dip «xurros» in it.
CREMA CATALANA
It is a famous Catalan dessert.
The Catalan cream brulée is made with eggs, sugar, milk and
flavoured with cinnamon and lemon peel.
PA AMB TOMÀQUET
You need:
- some bread
-some tomatoes
-olive oil
-salt
You have to spread the
tomato on the bread and put
some oil and salt.

-We celebrate it on
the 31st of October.
- We eat chestnuts
and pastries called
“panellets”.
-It is a typical
autumn festivity.

-The legend explains
that Saint George
killed the dragon
and saved the
princess.
- From dragon's
blood grew a rose.
-We celebrate Sant
Jordi on the 23rd of
April.
- We buy roses and
books.
EL TIÓ
-The “tió” is a log
that you hit and it
gives you presents.
-The “tió” comes
from the mountains
and it is at home
with us during
Christmas time.
11 DE SETEMBRE -September 11th
-On the 11th of
September we
celebrate the day
that Catalonia lost
its independence.
-Thousands of
people go out
holding Catalan
flags asking for
independence.

Massís del Montseny. It is 1705 metres high.
It is situated in the Barcelona region.

Montserrat is one of the most famous places in
Catalonia for its rock shapes. People go there to
practise rock climbing, trecking and visiting a
black virgin called «La Moreneta».

JOSEP GUARDIOLA
Josep Guardiola is a
very important football
trainer.
Guardiola was born on
the 18th of January
1971 in Catalonia.
Nowadays, Guardiola
trains a team called
Bayern of Munich.
He played in the
FCBarcelona as a midfielder
and after that he became the
trainer.
ARACELI SEGARRA
She was born in 1970 in
Lleida.
She is a Catalan alpinist
and
the first Spanish woman
who reached the top of
Mount Everest.
Segarra has a degree in
Physiotherapy.
She started an interest in
mountain sports at age 15.
In 1996, she participated in
the IMAX filmed
documentary, EVEREST.
SALVADOR DALÍ
Dalí was a very famous
surrealist painter.
He was highly imaginative
but quite bizarre as well.
He was born in Figueres on
the 11th of May in 1904
and he died in 1989.
MARC MÁRQUEZ
Marc Màrquez was born in
Cervera,Segarra on the 17th
of Febrary, 1993.
Marc Màrquez is wellkown as
a motor rider.
He was the first young pilot
to win the maximum
competition..
JOSEFINA CASTELLVÍ
Josefina was born in
Barcelona in 1935.
She studied Biology in
Barcelona University.
She is a wellknown
scientist and the first
woman who travelled
to the Antartida.
PAU CASALS
Pau Casals was a very
famous musician.
He was born in “El
Vendrell,Baix Penedès in
1876 and he died in San
Juan,Puerto Rico in 1973.
He was wellknown all over
the world for its music
played with a cello.
KILIAN JORNET
Kilian Jornet was born in
Sabadell on the 27th of
October ,1987.
Kilian is a ski mountaineer
and long-distance runner.
He is widely regarded to
the most dominating trail
runner in the world.
He is a six-time champion
of the long-distance.Ski
runner World Series and
has won some of the most
prestigious ultramarathons

Montserrat Caballé was
born in Barcelona in 1933.
She is a musician.
She sings opera.
She is quite famous.
