The 2021 Census – Initial view on content for England and Wales Video Script
Hello, I am Ian Cope, the Census Director for the 2021 Census in England and Wales, and I
need your help with planning the next census.
2021 may seem years away but we, at the Office for National Statistics, are already planning
the next census. As part of this, we have just launched a public consultation and are now
asking our users of census statistics for their views on the topics to go in the 2021 Census
questionnaire.
Our consultation is open to everyone – it doesn’t matter whether you want to respond as an
individual or on behalf of an organisation. We want to hear from all our users, from all
backgrounds, and you can give us your feedback until 27 August.
This is your opportunity to comment on our proposals and to tell us what information you
need from the 2021 Census. Taking part is easy and our aim is to make this consultation as
user friendly as possible. You can comment on all suggested topics, or just one. Or tell us
about what we’ve missed.
As you may know, census statistics help people and organisations across the private, public
and voluntary sectors to make better decisions.
For example, services and facilities we all use need to be identified and planned; these
include schools, hospitals and emergency services.
A lot changes in the 10 years between each census. Our society is constantly evolving and
the information our users want from the census needs to change too. This is why your
feedback is so important.
The census is all about better statistics to make better decisions. But to get there, we need
your help first. I encourage you to take part in this consultation and to tell others about it.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
