In reflecting on the past and looking to the future, Mr Pezzullo will offer his analysis and insights into the challenges and opportunities of the increasing international movement of people in a globalised world. Michael Pezzullo was appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection in October 2014. Prior to this, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS). Mr Pezzullo joined ACBPS as the Chief Operating Officer in July 2009, having been the Deputy Secretary Strategy in the Department of Defence—a position to which he was appointed in January 2006. Between February 2008 and May 2009 Mr Pezzullo led the Defence White Paper team and was also the principal author of the 2009 Defence White Paper.
