Principals Message
With spring around the corner, Creative Arts
is preparing for a lot of exciting events and
projects. Some of these events include spring
concerts, performances, art displays, and of
course, graduation!
It has been a busy winter as well. Our 6th and
7th grade students demonstrated their learning
through displays, websites, and performances
for their Minnesota History Day projects. We
celebrated our High School students’ talents as
they put on a great performance in February
at the Wellstone Center. Performance Night
highlighted their musicianship, dance skills,
and artistic ability. Many students have also
submitted artwork to contests, while others
have auditioned for the spring Honors Concert
here in Saint Paul.
Our Leadership Team continues initiating
partnerships with local businesses and
arts organizations that support student
learning during the day, while also providing
opportunities for students to engage with their
community beyond the school day. The Mobile
Jazz Project, Crack the Page Artist Workshop,
Flint Hills International Children’s Festival,
Breakthrough Twin Cities, Young Artists Initiative,
and the Optimist Oratorical Contest are just a
few organizations that are providing ways for
our students to share and develop.
Spring also means we start thinking ahead
to next school year. We are excited for our
remodeling to be completed, including our
new auditorium, new dance studio, and
renovated second and fifth floors. Our offices
will transition to the first floor over Spring Break,
and we will begin acclimating students to
some of those new routines.
Teachers and administrators are busy
putting the final touches on plans for 201516 course offerings. Look for additional
information about this process in early May.

PAC meets monthly from

March 2015
Hello,
My Name is Dan Feidt, a parent of a 9th grader and a member
of the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). We are all aware our
school building has been going through major reconstruction,
and this will continue throughout the summer. Since Creative
Arts School has become the sole occupant of this building, it too,
is going through some major reconstruction so that the outcome
of each student’s success reflects the goals and mission of this
school setting.
PAC has been active this year reviewing the schools’ Mission
Statement, goals, policies and procedures, academic
programs and school activity options for all grade levels,
and now we are in the process of putting forth our vision
for the next five years.
Why are redoing this as a parent group? I can speak as a Parent.
We as a committee want our students to graduate with a solid
academic foundation, multiple experiences in the area of our
child’s particular Art area, solid preparation for secondary
academics, and a successful long-term occupation in their
choice of Arts.
At this point in time, the PAC could benefit from greater representation from parents of students at all grade levels at Creative Arts.
As a parent of a 9th grader I am finding myself having to speak
to vision choices for grade levels of 6-8 and the upper grades.
I feel I might not be able to speak to future of your child’s
education. Please consider joining the conversation to lend your
perspective and insight about your student’s education. PAC
would like to have at least 2 to 3 parents for each grade level. If
we can achieve this goal, just think what we can do for the
success of all students attending Creative Arts School!
Middle School Students in Miss Jacalin Sall’s
art class tackle paper and glue as they
work on projects in the flexible space at
Creative Arts Secondary School.
Your thoughts and perspective will add to the future
success of Creative Arts Secondary School.
Next PAC meet is Monday, April 6,from 6-7:15 pm
(you can always check the school calendar online).

8th Grade • Photography
My name is Hannah Opatz
and I enjoy learning new things
and talking to my friends. My
favorite classes are English,
Global Studies and Digital
Photography, but I mostly like
Digital Photography.
Success in the classroom means
that I complete all my work
and focus on the teacher when
they’re talking. Having my
academic classes are important
because with them I can get
into a good college and they
help me to become smarter. I
think my proudest moment in
school would have to be being
featured in this article.
My advice to other students
is to work hard, focus and to
not slack off. My goal for the
future is to be a successful
photographer and start my own
photography business.
