This process has included specific curriculum teaching as well as test readiness strategies. It is important that students are at school on time in readiness for the test days on May 12, 13 & 14. Please ensure children have had breakfast, are calm, and are rested and ready to do their best work. Breakfast Club will be providing food for those students who need it prior to the start of testing. Classroom teachers and school administrative staff will be on hand to support students during the testing process. Test results will be sent to the school late in second semester and will be distributed to parents at this time. The NAPLAN timetable is below for your information. NAPLAN is undertaken in all schools in Australia at the same time. Please be advised that all school leaders will be part of the support team for students on these days and will not be responding to phone calls until after the session is complete. Children and staff have worked hard to develop the strategies necessary for the testing procedure. We look forward to seeing how the students apply these strategies on the day. Congratulations to all parents who have helped to prepare their children for this small slice of their children’s educational opportunities. WINTER UNIFORMS - Please ensure uniforms are worn even in the colder months. Labelling of items allows us to return goods to students if they are lost. We encourage the wearing of uniform at all times as it assists in maintaining school pride which is very important to us at Crestmead State School. At Tuesday night’s P&C meeting we discussed our ongoing concerns about uniform quality and supply. We have scheduled a meeting with the company so if you have any concerns about uniforms you would like us to raise on your behalf please contact a member of the P&C executive or email the school at [email protected]. UMBRELLAS - The school has purchased school umbrellas for classes who do not have covered walkway access to other buildings during wet weather. Luckily these arrived in time for the big wet last week. This was a workplace health and safety initiative. EVACUATION/LOCKDOWN PROCEDURES - Last term we had a successful Evacuation Drill. This term the focus will be on Lockdown Procedure. It is important the students understand that this is a safety strategy which requires them to be inside, below window height, quiet until advised by a staff member that the all clear has been given. Lockdown and Evacuation procedures apply to all persons on the school site at the time. Staff will be advised when the drill will occur so that students can be reminded of procedures to be followed. In terms 3 and 4 Evacuation and Lockdown drills will be held again but this time with no warning. This enables us to evaluate our processes. A reminder to school visitors that Lockdowns are announced by the playing of music through the loudspeaker system. The children know the music. Evacuation is signaled through the loudspeakers and uses a siren sound. After each drill strategies are evaluated to ensure the best possible management of persons on the school site. Your co-operation with our processes is appreciated. FLOODING IN THE HALL, LIBRARY AND LAB - Our sincere thanks to the cleaners, grounds and office staff who gave up their weekend to clean these areas ready for school this week. New carpets will be laid after the concrete has dried. Some parts of the building may be out of action for up to two weeks. Luckily we were able to save most resources in these rooms however the floor coverings are all being replaced. SEVERE WEATHER PICK-UP STRATEGIES- In severe weather the volume of traffic in our pick up area increases dramatically. We ask that you follow these strategies for special events or severe weather so that we can help you keep your children safe. • Be patient. • Model appropriate behaviour to students. • Allow traffic movement in and out of the school pick up zone. • WALK through the grounds, in the pick-up zone and while crossing the road. • Contact the school if you think you will be late. If we all work together we can keep children safe and get everyone away from school in a timely manner. Our students showed great effort in their respective events, having to deal with harder track conditions and numerous inclines. I am proud to say all students represented Crestmead with a high level of behaviour and sportsmanship throughout the day. Thank you to parents and family members who attended to support our students! SWPBS NEWSLETTER In week 2 our rule of the week was ‘Treat ICT equipment appropriately’. This looks like: taking care of equipment by not poking, banging or slamming keys, screens or any other equipment component. Equipment is very expensive and breaking equipment stops others from being able to use it. Week 3: Follow bus safety and venue safety instructions. Bus safety This looks like: sitting quietly on the bus so that you don’t distract the driver from doing his job-keeping you safe. Wait at the bus stop sensibly. Don’t play while you are waiting for the bus. Buses can’t stop in a hurry without causing injury to others on the bus. Stand back and wait patiently for the bus to stop. Venue Safety This looks like: waiting sensibly at venues for instructions. Follow the instructions that the venue personnel give to you so that everyone will enjoy themselves. Week 4: Be organized – use the bathroom before school and at break times. Week 5: Respect the right for others to teach and learn.
