Urging Ballarat residents to Dob in a Dealer

CRIME STOPPERS URGES BALLARAT RESIDENTS TO DOB IN A DEALER
Time is up for drug dealers in Western Victoria, with Crime Stoppers Victoria launching its Dob in a
Dealer campaign in Ballarat today to gather confidential information about local drug dealing activity.
The campaign will target the Ballarat region for an intensive two week campaign from 27 April to
encourage local residents to report information about those manufacturing and distributing crystal
methylamphetamine (‘ice’) and other illicit drugs.
The Crime Stoppers Victoria Dob in a Dealer program is funded by the Victorian Government’s
Community Crime Prevention Program and run in collaboration with Victoria Police, and is being rolled
out across Victoria to aid in the detection and disruption of drugs being supplied across the state.
The Ballarat campaign is the third to be launched in Western Victoria, with successful programs
recorded in Warrnambool and Geelong over the past month. The fight against drugs in the west will
continue in Portland, Horsham, Hamilton and Ararat in the coming months.
Residents are urged to contact Crime Stoppers for a confidential discussion if they have any information
relating to people who may be bringing harmful drugs into the Ballarat region.
“Drugs like crystal methylamphetamine can have a devastating and lasting impact on communities and
families,” Crime Stoppers Victoria Chief Executive Officer Samantha Hunter said.
“We know that drugs are of serious concern to the residents of Ballarat and neighbouring communities,
and we are committed to working with Victoria Police, the Victorian Government and local residents to
stop the flow of drugs into the region.
“We have received a significant response from residents in Geelong and Warrnambool over the past
month, and we are now asking Ballarat residents to protect their community and report those people that
are bringing harmful drugs into the region.”
“Making a report to Crime Stoppers is completely confidential. You will never be identified or called up
for a court case, but every piece of information you provide can help solve crimes and reduce supply.”
