NEW Canine Infectious Respiratory
Disease (CIRD) Panels at OADDL
OADDL offers the following diagnostic panels to assist you
with the clinical work-up of acute respiratory disease in dogs:
CIRD live animal panel ($85)

 Bacterial culture for Bordetella bronchiseptica, Group C
Streptococcus spp., and Mycoplasma (deep nasal swab in transport media).
Antibiotic sensitivity included for B. bronchiseptica and Group C
Streptococcus spp. isolates.
 PCR testing for canine influenza (deep nasal cotton swab in vial with 1 mL
saline per swab*)
 Fluorescent antibody (FA) testing for canine distemper virus (conjunctival
and genital cotton swabs in vials with 1 mL saline per swab*)
CIRD postmortem panel ($125)
 Bacterial culture for Bordetella bronchiseptica, Group C Streptococcus spp.,
and Mycoplasma (fresh trachea and lung)
 PCR testing for canine influenza (fresh trachea and lung)
 FA testing for canine distemper virus (fresh lung)
 Histopathology (fresh or formalin-fixed trachea and lung)
*Swabs for PCR or FA testing should be submitted in a sterile tube (e.g. redtopped tube) or vial with saline; all samples should be kept refrigerated and
submitted on cold ice packs.
