Annual day celebrations
SDMIT, Ujire celebrated its Annual Day on 25th April 2015 at Indraprastha auditorium with a colorful
cultural program showcasing the cultural heritage of our nation. Mr. Srikanth Srinivasan, Director-HR,
Cognizant Technology Solutions, Bangalore was the Chief Guest of the occasion. In his address he advised
students to concentrate on three important things of quality, deep learning and Inter personnel skills during
their course. Dr. D. Veerendra Heggadeji, President, SDME Society, Dr. S. Prabhakar, Vice President, SDME
Society and Dr. K. Suresh, Principal, SDMIT were also present during this occasion.

Students displayed singing, dancing and their creative artistic talents on the occasion and entertained the
audience with their exemplary performances. Prize distribution ceremony for the various Cultural & Sports
events conducted throughout the semester was held on the forenoon of the Annual Day.

SIT SDMIT Collaborative Research Workshop
The third workshop of SDMES - SIT’s Nano Technology Center of Excellence collaborations was held
from 17th April to 19th April, 2015 at SDMIT, Ujire. There were 27 participants from various collaborating
institutes. Five project proposals were fine tuned in the workshop. The program was inaugurated by
Dr. K. Suresh, Principal, SDMIT and Dr. Shambhu K. Shastry from Center of ART, SIT, Tumkur, Dr.
Ravishankar , Director of SDM Ayurveda College, Udupi were also present on the dais. Prof. Subrahmanya
Bhat, Department of Electrical and Electronics coordinated the program.

Academic Activities
Cloud Computing Workshop
Two days workshop on “Cloud Computing” was
organized by the Department of Computer Science and
Engineering for 6th Semester students on 17th & 18th
April, 2015. Dr. K. Suresh, Principal inaugurated the
workshop and advised the students and faculties to
utilize the workshop to maximum extent to shape their
future in this emerging technology. Prof. Raveendra
Dastikop, Associate Professor & Prof. Mayur Patil,
Assistant Professor, Dept of CSE, SDMCET, Dharward
were the resource persons to this event.

Technical talk on “Internet of Things”
Dr. Thyagaraju G. S., H.O.D., Dept of CSE,
delivered a technical talk on “Internet of Things” for 6th
semester students on 7th April, 2015.
Social Awareness Program
Department of ISE organized a “SOCIAL AWARENESS PROGRAM” under the “Department Association
Forum”, for the students of 4th semester, on 30th April 2015. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Siddhaling
Urolagin, H.O.D. Dept. of I.S.E. and Prof. Shobha Sharma, Chairman of Department Association Forum.
Students from various semesters of the department spoke on issues like Awareness on Road Accidents,
Drugs, Alcohol & Smoking & Effects of Global warming on this occasion. This program was concluded by
speech of Dr. Siddhaling Urolagin.

Placement Activity
Campus Drives at SDMIT
Students from 14 different colleges of Mangalore region attended the pool campus drive conducted by VIT
InfoTech, Bangalore at SDMIT.
Our students also participated in pool campus drive of following companies:
Sonata Software, Bangalore
Aryaka Networks, Bangalore
Tessolve semiconductors, Bangalore
Pranthian technologies, Bangalore
RIIIT-Mysore
A total of 40 students were selected from various companies during the month.

Faculty Activities
Prof. Subrahmanya Bhat presented a Technical Lecture on “Electrical Hazards and Safety Practices”
in “Citizenship Training Camp”, which was organized by S.D.M. English Medium High School,
Dharmasthala in S.D.M. College of Education , Belalu on 10th April 2015.
Prof. Guruprasad conducted a workshop on “Advancement in Big Data Analytics & Hadoop” on 2 nd
April, 2015 at N.M.A.M. Institute of Technology, Nitte.
Dr. Girish Kumar and Mr. Sukesh of Mechanical Engineering visited Hindalco Industries Limited,
Belagavi on 10th April 2015 for Research Interaction as a part of SDMIT-SIT collaboration.

Mr. S. P. Hegde of ECE, Mr. Subramanya Bhat , Mr. Sathya Narayana P. & Mr. Antheesh of EEE and
Mr. Laksmisagar of Department of Physics participated in SDMIT-SIT Collaborators Workshop III held
at SDMIT during 18th and 19th April 2015.
Faculty Achievements
Mr. Subramanya S. B. of Dept. of ECE Successfully completed his Comprehensive Viva - Voce on 28th
April 2015.
Student project titled “Design and Development of New Electrical Power Generation Unit Using
Vibrations of Shock Absorber” guided by Dr. K. Manjunath, is selected for project exhibition, in ABVP
State Level Project Exhibition held at New Horizon College of Engineering, Bangalore on 2nd ,3rd and
4th May 2015.
Prof. Somashekar D. P., attended and presented a technical paper in International Conference
(ICETES-2015) on “Analysis of Distributed Generation Sources considering of parameter for
Distribution System Operational Planning” in Jain College of Engineering, Belagavi on 25th April 2015.
Prof. Dharmanna L. published a paper titled “Analysis of Retinal Fundus Images Using Power
Spectrum Fractal Dimension & Texture Feature: An application for the detection of Diabetic
Retinopathy” in International Journal of Information Processing, Volume 9, Issue 1, pp.57-66, ISSN:
0973-8215, 2015.
Prof. Dharmanna L. published a paper titled “Different Clinical Parameters to Diagnose Glaucoma
Disease: A Review in International Journal of Computer Applications, Volume 115, Issue 23, April,
2015.

basis of his library usage.
Mr. Ashwath. K. P, VI Semester Mechanical Engineering, is recognized as ‘Best Library User’ for the
year of 2015, on the basis of his library usage.
The following students of SDMIT won 2nd Prize in MIME during “Chakravyuh -15” at Alva’s
Engineering College, Moodbidre.

Yaska Acharya of IV Year Mechanical secured First prizes for the papers “Topological Optimization of
Industrial Refrigerator Bed” and “Effect of Solar Shading” in Mechanical and Electrical sections
respectively in the Technical Paper Competition held at KVG College of Engineering, Sullia on 11th
April 2015. The experimental works for the above papers were carried out in the Institute under the
guidance of Prof. Sukesh N. of Mechanical Department, Prof. Sathyanarayana P. of EEE Department and
Prof. Lakshmisagar P.S. of Physics Department.
Shruthi D.L. and Sushmitha M. of III Year Civil secured Third Prize in the Paper Presentation
Competition held at JNNCE, Shivamogga on 25th April 2015.

LIC visits
Local Inspection Committee authorized by VTU, Belgaum Visited SDMIT Campus on 9th April 2015.
They also had an interaction with HODs and Deans of the college.
