AB 60 Fact Sheet
California Assembly Bill 60 (AB 60) allows eligible applicants to obtain an official California driver
license even if they can’t prove that they are legally permitted to live in the United States.

Who is eligible for a license under AB 60? Every person age 16 and older can
get an AB 60 driver license, if that person can’t prove that they are legally allowed to
live in the United States.
What are the benefits of obtaining a valid driver license? A driver license allows

without a license, and your vehicle won’t be impounded. A driver license can be used
as official identification when talking to a police officer.

How can I practice for the driving test? After you pass
the written exam, you’ll get an instruction permit. This permit
allows you to drive a vehicle ONLY WHEN a person age 18
or older, who holds a valid California driver license, rides in the
front passenger seat. With an instruction permit, you can practice
driving with a licensed adult driver until you feel comfortable
taking and passing the driving test.
