St. Louis Section, American Society of Civil Engineers Mike Alizadeh / Geotechnology Scholarship Thank you for your interest in the Mike Alizadeh/Geotechnology Scholarship. The scholarship committee has prepared the following summary to provide you some background. Please review the entire application package. We look forward to receiving your application. INTENT The Mike Alizadeh / Geotechnology Scholarship fund was established by the Alizadeh Family in early 2007. The original donation was made to the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) St. Louis Section and is currently administered by a subcommittee within the ASCE St. Louis Geo-Institute Chapter. The 2015 scholarship fund will provide an award total of $8,000. The scholarship committee will award the full amount to a single applicant or split the $8,000 between two applicants based upon the merit of the applications received. In honor of his significant contribution to the geotechnical and environmental professions, and strong support and belief in ASCE, the family of the late Mike Alizadeh has established this scholarship fund. It is the intent of the Alizadeh family, and therefore the scholarship committee, to award the scholarship to a graduate student who is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering with a geotechnical or environmental emphasis at a Midwestern university during the Fall 2015 term. Added recognition will be noted for applicants who are ASCE Student Members. M. Mike Alizadeh, P.E. began his 38 year career as a geotechnical engineer in 1959 in the St. Louis Area. He is considered one of the most influential geotechnical professionals in the region during this time. Early in his career, Mr. Alizadeh worked for such St. Louis firms as Fruco Engineering (now Fru-Con) and McClellan Engineering. In 1975, he opened the St. Louis branch of Shannon & Wilson where he held such positions as Branch Manager, Senior Vice-President, and Eastern Region Manager. In 1984, he founded the firm of Geotechnology, Inc. in Maryland Heights, Missouri, which has grown to one of the largest geotechnical and environmental firms in the region. Mr. Alizadeh was a life-long member of ASCE and strong supporter of the ASCE St. Louis Section. The Mike Alizadeh / Geotechnology Scholarship will be awarded in 2015 for the fall session. Procedures for 2016 and subsequent years may be revised from those contained herein.
