Researchers have concluded that solar winds colliding with the earth’s magnetosphere can affect the brilliance of the light display—but scientific research does not currently account for all that can be seen. Our cover image was photographed in August of 2014 during a brilliant and changing light show over Europe Lake by photographer Dan Eggert. Revel in the natural mysteries that surround us. Join us for Celebrating Open Spaces & Wild Places. We invite you to come celebrate, explore and learn about the beautiful lands and waters that make Door County such a unique and inspiring place to live and visit! A half-day tour of Chambers Island, guided hikes at our newest nature preserves, a community lecture featuring renowned New England author and speaker, Peter Forbes, neighborhood progressive dinners, and brisk-paced wilderness walks are just a few of the over 50 events and outings designed to bring our community together and deepen our collective understanding and appreciation for Door County. Choose outings that are right for you and join us. Many events are offered at no charge; others help the Land Trust raise the funds needed to protect and care for the places that make Door County so special. Some outings are tailored just for Land Trust members; others are open to the public at large. All work to strengthen the land preservation community! We thank the many hosts, co-hosts, naturalists and hike leaders named within this booklet for donating their time and talent. We also thank our hardworking Community Outreach Committee, our many business members (please see inside back cover), and, of course, we thank you! By working together, we are protecting Door County’s exceptional lands and waters forever...and that’s worth celebrating! Door County Land Trust nature preserves are located throughout the county. They are open for all to enjoy each and every day at no charge.
