GETTING STARTED 1
How to Connect SoMedia and Marketo
Your Marketo administrator has to perform the following setup before the integration between
SoMedia and Marketo will function as described. If you have any questions or issues with completing
this setup, please contact SoMedia at [email protected].
1.
Create an API Role and API User within Marketo
Navigate to the Admin area of the Marketo application. Click on the User & Role section of the left side panel.
•
Create a new role called “API Role”.
•
The next step is to create an API only user and associate it with the API Role that you just created. You can
do this by selecting the API Role checkbox when you create this API User.
2.
Create a Custom Service for the REST API
A Custom Service is required to uniquely identify the SoMedia application. To create a custom application, navigate to the Admin >
LaunchPoint screen and create a New Service.
•
3.
Choose the “Custom” service type, provide a name (something descriptive for your reference), description (optional) and
the API user you just created.
Once created, click on the View Details link to get the Client ID and Client Secret. Note these as you will need to send these
to SoMedia when we create your Scalable Video account so that we are authorized to update your Marketo account with
your SoMedia Scalable Video analytics.
Enable Munchkin API
You need to enable the Munchkin API in order to allow SoMedia to update your Marketo lead activity log with video viewing details.
To enable this API, navigate to the Admin > Munchkin screen and click Edit under the API Configuration section.
•
Check the box to Enable Munchkin API and enter an API Private Key in the field provided.
Please note the Munchkin Account ID at the top of this screen as well as the API Private Key. You will need to provide these
to SoMedia when we create your Scalable Video account so that we are authorized to update your Marketo account with
your SoMedia Scalable Video analytics.

4.
Create Marketo custom fields
Please create the following fields in Marketo to capture aggregated lifetime video activity for each of your Marketo leads.
•
To create new fields, navigate to the Admin > Field Management screen and
click on New Custom Field. Or if you are synced with a CRM like Salesforce
and would like these fields available in your CRM, then create these same
fields in your CRM instead and allow them to sync over to Marketo.
Create the following fields
as they are noted below:
Type: Float
Name: video_views
Type: Float
Name: video_seconds_watched
5.
Request your SoMedia Scalable Video account
Once the above steps are completed, contact your SoMedia contact (or click on Get Started on the SoMedia
Launchpoint page) to get your SoMedia login and password. Please ensure that you have handy the 4 pieces of
information that you collected above for the Custom Service and the Munchkin API.

GETTING STARTED 3
Create More Engaging Emails
and Landing Pages with Video
Once you’ve uploaded and customized at least one video using Scalable Video’s video player, let’s
integrate it into your Marketo landing page to engage more customers and discover where and
when they are engaging with your video campaign assets.
1.
Embed your video player in your campaign landing
Copy the “Webpage embed code” from the Share & SEO tab on the player and paste it wherever you want it on your website
and landing page. If you’re building a landing page in Marketo, create an HTML block in your landing page template and
paste the embed code there. When you preview your page you should see the video player thumbnail.
2.
Ensure that your video player points to your specific campaign
To ensure that your video player thumbnail within your Marketo email directs viewers to your landing page or webpage where you
have embedded the video player in step 1, paste the URL of the page into the Embedded Web Page URL field on the “Share & SEO”
tab and click “Save”.
3.
Include your video thumbnail in your next email
From the app, click on the video player you want to include in the email. Within the Share & SEO tab, ensure the Embedded Web
Page URL link references the page containing your video player and that this is the destination page for the email. Click to Save this
URL. Once you have saved this URL, copy the HTML code from within the Email Video Embed Code field.
Within your Marketo email template, select the content block in your template that you want the video thumbnail to appear. Click
on Edit, and select the HTML button and paste in this field. Please note, if you want to have the email subject appear in the analytic
details, please replace the “Your Email Subject” text in the HTML code with the specific subject of your email. You can check to
ensure that your video player link is pointing towards the correct web page URL by ensuring that this URL is specified in the HTML
code in this field.
•
Click Save. Your video thumbnail should appear in your email canvas.

Measure your video performance
After you’ve uploaded and customized your video, added it to all your campaign elements, and
successfully launched your campaign, now comes the fun part – monitoring and analyzing in realtime how your viewers are engaging with your campaign!
Within Marketo
SoMedia captures video viewing data and automatically updates
your Marketo lead info and activity log. For each lead in Marketo we
capture the following when they view your videos hosted by our video
player:
Within Lead Info:


The total number of videos they have watched to-date
The total number of seconds of video they have watched to-date
Within the Lead Activity Log, each time a lead watches a video:


The web page it is hosted on

The percentage of the video that was watched
(For Example: if the video is 60 seconds long and they watched only 15 seconds, this would be recorded as 25%)
The name of the video
Within the SoMedia
Scalable Video app
For detailed information about a specific video, click on
the video in the list for full analytics. On this page, you
can filter data by date, geography, platform, and viewer.
You can look for trends in who, when and where
viewers are watching your videos.
SoMedia tracks the following analytics for each video player:

Views. The number of people that clicked on your video player thumbnail (but didn’t necessarily hit play).

Plays. The number of video plays. Note: you can have multiple plays for each view (if a viewer watched a video
more than once in the same visit). We provide detailed information for each play including who watched (when
associated with an Marketo email), which email they clicked from, where they were, the date and time of the play,
what platform they were using, and how much of the video they watched.

Play Rate. The number of plays as a percentage of total number of views.

Completion Rate. The number of complete plays as a percentage of the total partial and complete plays.

Social Media shares. The number of clicks on the social media share buttons on the video player.

Marketing Plugins. The number of views and clicks for each of the marketing plugin buttons that you have added to your player.
SoMedia Networks 201-221 E 10th Ave. Vancouver, BC V5T 4V1 | Toll Free 877.850.5510 | [email protected] | www.somedia.net

platform and operating system

Geography. The number of views by city and country

Engagement Graph. The cumulative engagement from
the combined video plays to see overall where viewers are
dropping off and not watching to the end.

Embed Locations. The detailed view and play information
across all URLs where you have embedded your video
player.
Download the Report CSV file to get a tabular view of all analytic data for your player,
keyed with subscriber email address and email template name.
