Session #1 – Advocacy, How to Make an Impact
This session will provide a variety of perspectives on how best to
advocate with government on issues of importance to police
oversight and policing in Alberta. We will hear from key partners
and stakeholders regarding the advantages and disadvantages of
advocacy as individual organizations versus collaborating with a
provincial
vincial organization or among a number of provincial
organizations, as well as how to determine which organization is
best placed to lead an advocacy effort. We will learn the
importance of having a well planned strategy and approach when
contacting government
government and how best to bring forward important
issues.

Session #2 –Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP
This
s session will provide information on the role of the Commission
for Public Complaints Against the RCMP and how the
Commission’s mandate interfaces with Alberta’s legislated
complaints framework. The session will also discuss how the
Enhancing RCMP Accountability
Accountability Act will impact the Commission
as it transitions to the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission
for the RCMP (CRCC).

Session #3 – Risk Management for Good Governance
This session will discuss what all boards should be aware of to
provide good governance to the organizations they oversee. Risk
management best practices will be discussed, along with tips on
how to implement these practices for your own board.

This session will provide information on the role of the ALERB, the
appeals process in Alberta, what oversight bodies need to know
