By Moulana Muhammad Shoyaib Nurgat A complete guide to preparing a Kafan and practically making a Kafan for the deceased A Kafan should be of good quality Should not be very expensive The Kafan or its price should come from the wealth of the deceased or the deceased family and must be from a Halal source Kafan should not be silk for Male (General Rule: material that was not permissible to wear in ones lifetime cannot be used as Kafan) Width / Length of the Kafan will depend on the waist of the deceased The person who bathes the dead body and hides its faults, forty of his major sins will be forgiven; and one who shrouds the dead body, Allah will bless him with clothes of Paradise; and one who digs a grave for the deceased to be buried, then it is as though he has made a house for him to reside in until the resurrection (Mustadrak Hakim) The Kafn does NOT need to be soaked in ZamZam Water. There is NO evidence for doing this. No Ayah of the Quran is to be written on the Kafan or placed in the Kafan. There is NO benefit in doing this. "Among the good deeds that continue to benefit a believer after death are: A knowledge that he taught and disseminated, A righteous child who lived after him, A Qur'aan book that he left as inheritance, A masjid that he built, A house that he built for the two wayfarers, A stream that he ran, or a charity that he gave from his wealth during his healthy lifetime so that it would reach him (in rewards) after death." (Narrated in Ibn Maajah and others) 3 sheets for a Male 5 sheets for a Female 1st Cloth: Kamis This cloth will cover the deceased from the shoulder to the BELOW the knee.
