How to Integrate Motivational
Interviewing with Cognitive
Behaviour Therapy to
Maximise Client Outcomes
29 April 2013 - The VIBE Hotel North Sydney
p
About the Workshop
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
is an ‘action stage’ therapy and
requires active participation by the
client. Treatment completion and
homework compliance in CBT are
associated with better therapeutic
alliance and improved therapy
outcomes. In practice, attrition rates
and homework non-compliance can
be greater than 50% with low
motivation for treatment an
important factor.
Adding Motivational Interviewing
(MI) strategies to CBT can improve
engagement, treatment completion,
therapeutic alliance and outcomes.
This fun, interactive workshop will
highlight the essential features of
both MI and CBT, examine how the
two styles can complement each
other in treatment, and outline how
to identify when to move between
them to get the best outcomes from
treatment.
