Clyde Ralph Rathbone, 80,
of Mt. Ulla, died Tuesday, April
25, 2007. A graveside service
will be held at 1 p.m. today,
Friday, April 27 at Willow Valley Cemetery. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville is
serving the Rathbone family.

Shella Secrest Morgan, 58,
of Cornelius, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2007. A memorial service will be held at 2
p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home

Franklin Daniel Reid, 55, of
Mooresville, died Wednesday,
April 25, 2007 at Lake Norman
Regional Medical Center.
Born July 26, 1951 in
Agana, Guam, he was the son
of the late James and Sylvia
Castro Reid. He was a welder
at Kewaunee Scientific Corp
in Statesville for 19 years. He
was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam, Kuwait and
Desert Storm.
In addition to his parents,
he is preceded in death by a
brother, Benjie Reid.
Mr. Reid is survived by his
wife, Joyce Moose Reid; daughter, Angela Reid Alexander
of Mt. Holly; brother, James T.
Reid of Fayetteville; sisters,
Martha Ann Nichols of Charlotte, Sarah Frances Reid of
Taylorsville, Tricia Mae Reid
of Kannapolis; grandchildren,
Sylvia Marie Alexander and
Daniel Mark Alexander.
Funeral service with military honors will be held at 11
a.m. on Saturday, April 28 at
Cavin-Cook Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial will follow the
service at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery. The family will
receive friends today, Friday,
April 27 from 6:30-8 p.m. at
the funeral home.
Memorials may be made
to Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Oasis Shriners, 604

Mabel Billings Combs, 91,
of Mooresville died peacefully
on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at
her residence.
Born May 29, 1915 in Alleghany County, she was the
daughter of the late John and
Lena Taylor Billings. She was a
graduate of Appalachian State
Teachers College. She was a
retired third grade teacher for
Danville School System in
Danville, Va. for over 20 years
and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by
her husband, James Howard
Combs; sisters, Blanche Boyd
and Evelyn Carson.
Mrs. Combs is survived by
her children, Howard Combs
of San Jose, Calif. and James
Jay Combs and wife, Mary, of
Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Laurel Combs of Flagstaff, Ariz. and Michael
Combs of San Diego, Calif.
A graveside service will be
held at 1 p.m. on Sunday,
April 29, at Cranberry Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery
in Laurel Springs.

NATIONAL POSTCARD WEEK
Postcards became a
means of communication
for Mooresville citizens as
early as 1900, when pharmacist George C. Goodman
began selling images of local
landmarks and churches on
small cards.
In advance of National
Postcard Week (May 6-14),
the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce
and the South Iredell Senior
Center will sponsor a heritage program on Mooresville postcards on May 2. It's
at 2 p.m. in the Charles Mack
Leo likes to start his day
with a hearty bowl of oatmeal. For lunch, he enjoys a
nice chicken dish, and dinner’s light — perhaps a few
veggies and two or three
cookies for dessert.
The 110-pound Portuguese water dog-otter
hound mix is not a picky
eater, says Pilar Passmore,
who has been preparing her
pooch’s meals since adopting him five years ago from
the Suncoast Humane
Society in Englewood.
When Passmore heard
about the recent nationwide
pet food recall, she didn’t
worry. At least, not about
Leo. He hasn’t so much as
sniffed a bowl of Menu
Foods’ potentially deadly
“cuts and gravy” meals.
Providing home-cooked
meals for her pet really
doesn’t require that much
extra effort, Passmore says.
“I know that people may
balk at the idea, but there
are a million shortcuts. It’s a
lot easier than cooking for a
husband because they’re
[pets] not human; they’re
not going to critique,” she

George Keener Harbinson,
82, of Mooresville, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 17, 1924 in High
Point, he was the son of the
late Charles and Bertha
Keener Harbinson. He was a
World War II veteran serving
in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He
was retired from Burlington
Industries as a training manager after 37 years of service.
He served as a deacon and
elder at Prospect Presbyterian
Church in Mooresville. He
was a member of Mt. Pleasant
United Methodist Church,
where he was a member of
the choir and a past member
of the Staff Parish Committee.
He was a member of the
Mooresville Masonic Lodge
#496 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Mooresville-South
Iredell Chapter of the AARP,
where he served as past president. He was also a member
of the Spinning Moors Square
Dance Club, where he served
as past president.
In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by
six brothers and sisters.
Mr. Harbinson is survived
by his wife, Glennie Withers
Harbinson; sons, Sam Harbinson and wife, Sandi, of
Sherrills Ford, Dr. Bill Harbinson and wife, Sandy, of Boone;
sister, Virginia Southard of
High Point; grandchildren,
Billy Harbinson and wife, Lori,
Chris Harbinson and wife,
Staci, Amanda Matheson and
husband, Chad, Ashley Ensley
and husband, Kevin, greatgrandchildren, Sydney and
Andy Harbinson, Lani and
Walker Harbinson, Katie and
Julie Matheson.
Funeral service with military honors will be held at 4
p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at
Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe M.
Westfall and Rev. Grady R.
Barringer officiating. Burial
will follow the service in the
church cemetery. The body
will lie in state from 10 a.m.12 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. The family will
receive friends Saturday from
2-4 p.m. at the church.
