How to use DMP map services in MapInfo INTRODUCTION The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) has implemented a number of map services. These map services range from Web Map Services (WMS) to Image Web Services (IWS). These services can be used in MapInfo. DMP MAP SERVICES Below is a list of Universal Reference Locators (URL) for map services provided by DMP. A listing of layers provided in each map service is available from DMP’s Data Centre (http://www.doir.wa.gov.au/datacentre) under the Map Services category. A listing of layers in each map service is provided on DMP’s Data and Software centre, and under the Map Services section. NOTE: URL’s to DMP Web Map Services will change; any mention of doir in the URL will be replaced with dmp. For example, http://gissdi.doir.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Administration_External/MapServer/WMSServer will change to http://gissdi.dmp.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Administration_External/MapServer/WMSServer How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 1 LANDGATE MAP SERVICES Landgate’s Shared Land Information Platform (SLIP) portal provides the public with access to two web services; you will need to be a registered user of Landgate SLIP services to access these. The URLs to Landgate’s public SLIP services are: http://www2.landgate.wa.gov.au/ows/wmspublic https://www2.landgate.wa.gov.au/ows/wmspublicimagery MAP SERVICES IN MapInfo To add a map service to MapInfo: 1) Start MapInfo. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 1 2) Click on ‘File’, select ‘Open Web Service’, select ‘Open WMS…’. 3) Click on ‘Servers…’. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 2 4) Click on ‘Add…’. 5) Add the Server URL of your choice, for example: http://gissdi.doir.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Geoscience_External/MapServer/WMSServer 6) Click on ‘Get Description’. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 3 7) Click on ‘Test URL…’. 8) Click on ‘Close’. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 4 9) Click on ‘OK’. 10) From the list, select the WMS Server you have just created, for example: ‘WA Geoscience Web Map Service’. Click on ‘Set Default’. A ‘tick’ symbol should appear next to your chosen default WMS Server. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 5 11) Click on ‘OK’. 12) Select the layers you wish to add to your .TAB file by selecting the file and clicking on ‘Add>>’. NB: the order of these layers determines their display order. Click ‘Move Up’ or ‘Move Down’ to arrange the order of the layers as needed. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 6 13) The Table Filename will default to ‘Untitled.TAB’. If you wish to change the file name, delete ‘Untitled’ (keeping the extension ‘.TAB’) and rename accordingly. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 7 14) Click ‘OK’ to close the dialogue box. TROUBLESHOOTING WEB MAP SERVICES FOR MAPINFO An Error message may occur in MapInfo wherein the WMS Server version is inconsistent with that requested by MapInfo. The Error message indicated that ‘Parameter “exceptions” contains unacceptable value’ (see below). 1) In this case, go to the .TAB file you created in the WMS dialogue box. There will be a .XML file associated with this .TAB file. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 8 2) Open the associated .XML file with either a ‘notepad’ or ‘wordpad’ program. 3) If the WMS version is indicated as 1.3.0, this will need to be changed to 1.1.1, for example: <MI_WMS_MapDefinition version="1.0" wms_version="1.3.0"><HTTP Change to: <MI_WMS_MapDefinition version="1.0" wms_version="1.1.1"><HTTP 4) The exception format will also need to be changed in order for MapInfo to accept the parameters: GetMap="http://gissdi.doir.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Geoscience_External/MapServer/WMSS erver?"/><Exception format="XML"/><SRS>CRS:84</SRS><Image Change to: GetMap="http://gissdi.doir.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Geoscience_External/MapServer/WMSS erver?"/><Exception format=" application/vnd.ogc.se_xml"/><SRS>CRS:84</SRS><Image 5) Save the edited .xml file by selecting ‘File’ and clicking on ‘Save’. 6) Re-open the created .TAB file in MapInfo by selecting ‘File’, ‘Open Web Service’, ‘Open WMS’. The Web Service should already be set as default to WA Geoscience Web Map Service. Click ‘OK’. How to use DMP Map Services in MapInfo 9
