INTRODUCTION
The Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP) has implemented a number of map services. These map
services range from Web Map Services (WMS) to Image Web Services (IWS). These services can be used
in MapInfo.
DMP MAP SERVICES
Below is a list of Universal Reference Locators (URL) for map services provided by DMP. A listing of layers
provided in each map service is available from DMP’s Data Centre (http://www.doir.wa.gov.au/datacentre)
under the Map Services category.

A listing of layers in each map service is provided on DMP’s Data and Software centre, and under the Map
Services section.
NOTE: URL’s to DMP Web Map Services will change; any mention of doir in the URL will be replaced with
dmp. For example,
http://gissdi.doir.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Administration_External/MapServer/WMSServer will
change to
http://gissdi.dmp.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Administration_External/MapServer/WMSServer

TROUBLESHOOTING WEB MAP SERVICES FOR MAPINFO
An Error message may occur in MapInfo wherein the WMS Server version is inconsistent with that requested
by MapInfo. The Error message indicated that ‘Parameter “exceptions” contains unacceptable value’ (see
below).
1) In this case, go to the .TAB file you created in the WMS dialogue box. There will be a .XML file associated
with this .TAB file.

2) Open the associated .XML file with either a ‘notepad’ or ‘wordpad’ program.
3) If the WMS version is indicated as 1.3.0, this will need to be changed to 1.1.1, for example:
<MI_WMS_MapDefinition version="1.0" wms_version="1.3.0"><HTTP
Change to:
<MI_WMS_MapDefinition version="1.0" wms_version="1.1.1"><HTTP
4) The exception format will also need to be changed in order for MapInfo to accept the parameters:
GetMap="http://gissdi.doir.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Geoscience_External/MapServer/WMSS
erver?"/><Exception format="XML"/><SRS>CRS:84</SRS><Image
Change to:
GetMap="http://gissdi.doir.wa.gov.au/SDIPrd/services/external/Geoscience_External/MapServer/WMSS
erver?"/><Exception format=" application/vnd.ogc.se_xml"/><SRS>CRS:84</SRS><Image
5) Save the edited .xml file by selecting ‘File’ and clicking on ‘Save’.
6) Re-open the created .TAB file in MapInfo by selecting ‘File’, ‘Open Web Service’, ‘Open WMS’. The
Web Service should already be set as default to WA Geoscience Web Map Service. Click ‘OK’.
