(See page 53.) The company started the survey in 1977 and added real estate agents in 2003. Here’s a Gallup poll conducted in late 2011: Out of 20 professions, real estate agents ranked #12 in honesty, just slightly above lawyers. While we help people handle their most expensive financial assets, only 20% of the individuals who participated in the survey rated the honesty and ethical standards of real estate agents as “Very High / High.” Twenty-two percent ranked us “Very Low / Low.” A second survey was done by Reader’s Digest Canada Magazine in May 2012: As you can see, 46% of the respondents indicated real estate agents were the most distrusted professionals in Canada last year. If Reader’s Digest in the United States had conducted the same poll, the results would probably be similar, because the two countries are closely related, and agents use the same prospecting and marketing techniques. What about the image of real estate agents in other countries? Reader’s Digest in Australia conducted a similar poll in 2012, and here’s what they found.
